I have tried plastic and metal. The plastic they chew up immediately, and the metal can only be used in the summer because in the winter their tongue sticks to it. I need it to be pretty big because they live outside and share the bowl. Can anyone help by telling me what kind of bowl I can get and where I can purchase it? It must be for water! Thanks!

The hard rubber ones work great. Go to any horse/livestock supply store. They are pretty cheap as well. They come in all different sizes.
I can attest that those work great- we have a half pitbull mutt who even chews through metal and these bowls have been the only thing to last more than a month. These bowls lasted about 6 months or so; that isn't bad considering they are only 5 bucks or so. Basically once they tear a hole in it with their teeth (depending on your dogs- you may never need a new one) you can use it as a food dish.

Plus it is nice in the winter- you just jump on the bowl and the ice will pop right out.

There are many anti-chewing products available at pet stores(such as bitter apple or bitter lime) that have a strong taste that is unpleasant and can help curb their habit. When I worked at a pet store for two years we often used it when we had puppies. There is also a garden product that is made with spicy peppers designed to keep rabbits/pests from eating plants which is meant to be used outdoors and lasts a month or more depending on the rain. These could be used around the outside of the bowl. This may help cure the problem until you can find a solution or help them kick the habit :)

I went to petsmart and bought my dogs water trof in the horse section. Even the Saints cant chew threw it. I have it chained to the fence so they cant carry it away. It is made of a VERY strong plastic and rubber. Its been over a year now and it is still in good condition. Glad that worked because the next step was an old bath tub.

I use a crock type ceramic thing. It is a antique one that held pickels I think. It holds more than one gallon and you can put a bucket heater into it safely.
It is very heavy and my large dogs can not move it or tip it over and nobody has tried to chew on it. I do not think they would.
I have seen dog bowls like this at some pet stores but just not as lagre. Most of them hold several quarts of water maybe one of those would be your answer.

There are other products that provide water for dogs. Many kennels use a hanging water bottle. It looks much like a rabbit water bottle. They work well, keep the water clean and if you have dogs that love to dump the water that problem is solved as well. You can hang them from anything, a fence, dog house, tree. Whatever your set up is. They can be found in larger pet stores or the Internet.

Buy a heated water bucket and wrap the edge of it in aluminum. They sell the aluminum in coils at home improvement centers and the buckets at various feed/pet stores. I had a lab that loved to chew and that worked. Also, tie it to a tree, post, etc. with wire or chain so the dogs can't dump it/drag it around.

Try a feed store and get a large round hard plastic tub meant for feeding livestock. Either that or go metal and get a heating element (Also available at a feed store) for the bottom of it (Doesn't make it "hot", just keeps it above freezing...).

I use stainless steel pails for my dogs.
I have never had one of my dogs tongues stick to the bucket! LOL - poor dogs!
You can hang the pail on the fence with a snap bolt & you shouldn't have any more problems.

My concrete birdbath base has broken & the large top that holds the water is on the ground. My dogs drink from it all the time. I don't think they could chew concrete.

you could try one of those flowing waterfalls for dogs. it keeps the water circulating so it wont freeze (depending on where you live) is there anyway they can have access to water inside somewhere? to keep the water bowl from sticking to their tongues?
