In my opinion it is too commercial and expensive, but no excuse for not buying (or making) you a card and cooking you a meal. Not that anyone should wait until a specific day to do things like that for the one they love. Love is for life not just for Valentines Day :-)

I really don't care if it's commercial or not-celebrate it anyway! Men are always using those excuses so they don't have to put any effort into what they can do for their wives or girlfriends to show them love and appreciation. I think Valentine's day was made especially so women would know that they are appreciated at least one day out of 365, and some men can't even cope with that! Women need to have their emotions fed, and their needs stroked-come on men, get with the program, stop fighting the feeling!

Yes it seems to put people in a bind to do the right thing. I firmly believe that you should do special things for your girl throughout the year for no reason other than I love her and want her to be happy & feel special. Your boyfriends excuse isn't a good one. We always give each other at least a card for Valentines Day but neither of us feel the pressure to get it right on just that one day.

Valentine's Day, just like Mother's Day and Father's Day were created by Madison Avenue to sell products. It's great to show your feelings but why wait until the advertising agencies tell us to. Do it when the feeling is there. Do it everyday day. Yes, Valentine's Day is too commercial. it's a way to separate the person from his or her money. Celebrate your love today! Celebrate your love when you want to, not when you're told to.

We've been happily married for nearly 28 years and we don't do Valentines Day. It is sooo commercial...all these companies trying to make money out of feelings!
If you want, tell him that you'll both MAKE a card for each other, then you can keep the card and bring it out, year on year and perhaps add a new message to it each year!

yes a card is always a nice gesture, but some people go to OTT, like come there is no need to spend like 20 pounds on a card, and then near 10 on just the wrapping the present and then of course the present its.
A nice card and maybe a box of choc or what you really like but something small and v personal.
After all its love your meant to be celebrating not how much you can spend on a big gift.

Absolutely its too commercial - but for goodness sake get a card!
Personally I'll be cooking the misses a lovely slap up dinner, rather than going out!

Valentines Day is an opportunity to show your oved one exactly how you feel about them, at what is a miserable time of the year in the northern hemisphere.
Remember though that it is not simply an opportunity for girlfriends / wives to be treated nicely and bought luxury gifts, it is nice for blokes to get a card and present too !!!

it's extremely commercial, what does a card change? everyone should show their love for others everyday not just once a year just because the calendar says so. i actually appreciate it more when my bf surprises me with flowers (or any other little thought) on a regular day, it means a lot.

i admire human beings known and that they love me. that's purely as faux and advertisement as that's on your strategies. My pals and that i've got a field day on Valentine's Day and definitely take excitement in the flaws we do for one greater and the surprises we spring. We try this all 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to boot yet we see this as a reason for added celebrating and not something it fairly is compelled upon us or that Hallmark earnings off of. Saint Valentine replace into an brilliant guy and wrote letters of encouragement and prefer to human beings as he sat unjustly in a detention center cellular. now and returned human beings choose an excuse or springboard to get issues began and why no longer use the conventional day of love as a splash bolster? i'm with you approximately loving human beings known yet i admire the ambience of celebrations and that i'm going with to take section with my pals interior the happy adventure that began in my domicile with my mum and dad and the relaxing situations interior the college room the place all of us exchanged enjoying cards and had cupcakes. given which you're all relating to the affection known convey it on as usually happening right this moment and turn removed from the faux factors and make it your man or woman as we do. We embody the affection and have no longer something to do with the faux. So, happy ST. VALENTINE'S DAY, Me! i'm hoping you will take excitement on your day.
