A lot of overweight people make an excuse for themselves, by saying that they have a slow metabolism. But doesn't having a slow metabolism mean that your body takes longer than usual to burn up calories, so shouldn't that mean that you don't feel as hungry as often, if your calories last you longer?

Eating more actually increases your metabolism. Being overweight also increases your metabolism. If a 200 pound person and a 110 pound person walk the same distance, the heavier person will burn more calories. So overweight people actually have faster metabolisms than skinny people. Just play around with a BMR calculator or a calories burned calculator--put in different weights and you will see that the more weight you put in the more calories are burned.

The "slow metabolism" thing really is an excuse.

If you go for a walk or do some kind of physical activity early in the morning before you do anything else that will help your metabolism for the rest of the day. Eat right and burn more calories than you intake. And drink lot's of water! But I really should practice what I preach.

As you age, your metabolism does slow down.. ..meaning, your body does not burn calories as fast as it used to. Often times, this translates to weight gain as our eating habits don't change and many times they get worse. As we get older, we have to recognize this fact and curtail our eating to match the changes in our metabolism. This means diet and exercise; unfortunately not too many people have the discipline to do this and make excuses such as the ones you describe. The formula is simple; burn more calories than you eat/drink. Do this, and you will lose weight.

Metabolism is the rate your body burns calories at rest. So the faster your metabolism the faster/more calories your body burns at rest and vis versa. Hope that answers your question.

well actually everyone has a fast metabolism its just when we excersize it stas fast but when e get lazy it slows down. If you have a slow metabolism it takes a LOOONG time for your food to get to you stomach so u dont get full easily soo u eat more and more until the food you ate first finally got to your stomach and you become fat. SO even when ppl say they have a slow metabolism thats still their fault

there are a lot of people working on this problem... some of the people you meet with excess weight could dump it if they made some habit changes... others use up lots of energy and eat sensibly and still have trouble with their weight -- and some have diseases that make their weight the least of their concerns. be careful not to prejudge people by their weight.
