Is there a difference when people talk about fiber and dietary fiber? Why do the nutrional fact sheet sometimes talk about fiber and other times talk about dietary fiber. Is one better than the other or are they the same?

There are two kinds of fiber by name. One is water soluable fiber and the other is insoluable. They both help in keeping your digestive tract working. Some people cannot handle too much of the insoluable fiber at one time, because it may cause cramps. Some examples of water soluable fiber are fruits and veggies. Some examples of insoluable fiber are raw bran and raw oats. Check the label for fiber content and the type. As for the dietary fiber, the insoluable fiber is slower to digest, therefore making you feel full longer. You will see this on some weight loss programs. That is why it is important to drink plenty of water when consuming insoluable fiber. The soluable fiber may have more calories than the insoluable fiber, because the soluable type is in fruits and veggies.

Nope, fiber is fiber.
There is however a difference between Soluable fiber and Insoluable

Soluable fiber is like that benefiber stuff, it dissolves in water
Insoluable fiber just sits there. Like the popcorn husk stuck in your back molar.

insouluble fiber never makes it into your bloodstream. only bulking your stool. that is good. soluable fiber gets into your bloodstream and binds with tryglicerides which is also good.
