oops. hold on there for a minute - Everything that is written in Scripture, that is concerning the plan of God as purposed, will happen exactly as it is written in the Bible. That is not to say that everything each person on earth does, or what a person does with their life, the path they take, etc. is already pre-determined.
It isn't; if it was, we would have no need to be here in this flesh age - we are here to make an ultimate choice - if its already known, then the entire plan of God is not needed. (God forbid).
A person's life is not preknown, not predestined (that is unless the person is an elect of God, and was predestined for a specific purpose)
As far as prayer goes, it is the communication between God and His children. If you went and visited your dad and had a conversation with him, well , thats the same thing. God is our Heavenly Father - the closest relative we have, and prayer is what we call it when we speak with Him.

Holy Scripture is not chronologically arranged the way it is written. God operates on His Word differently than people read it. Also, we don't have all of the keys to understand everything He will do, or even the methods that He uses. His Ways are so beyond our own ways that we can't even imagine the incredible genius of a Creator who can work with Light that is invisble to our light, and bind and disperse as God does. His powers are mighty. His mind is as creative as His heart is generous. He is ready for today and for tomorrow, He goes before us and prepares a way for us. He is faster than those who come against Him, He is merciful to the little people who cry out to Him.
Have faith but also confidence that He is more than prepared to take on the present fight and win the Victory for His Name's sake and for all the people He loves (which is all of us.) If everything in Scripture could be seen then the devil would have the key, but it's not possible. The Lord gives us a view to the unseen, but never the full plan. However, signs and signals are present to people and they act with Him! So He says as you see these things hold your head up, your salvation is near! Prayer keeps your heart, mind, and soul in sync with Him and with His Plan. Those who pray have a mind for Him, not in myths, but in the real presence of God. "I know my sheep and my sheep know Me they know and heed my voice."

The reasons for praying are, to talk to and praise God,and to make a petition to God for some special intention, without prayer we are disconnected from God and cannot grow in the life of faith
God is omnipotent and yet the prayer of a humble heart makes Him as it were, defenseless and unable not to respond to that prayer in some way.
Since the death and resurrection of Christ and untill the final battle in which He will defeat satan forever, there are no fixed and immutable definite`s,any thing can be altered by prayer and fasting.

Who ever said we get EVERYTHING by faith does not read the Bible. There are qualifiers...,
* When you ask - BELIEVE! which "belief" is the cornerstone of faith which in essence means "trust".
* When you ask for something, if its for personal greed or foolishness (new gameboy, nintindo, tv, etc) you're not going to get it.
* Sometimes we will ask for something that seems good and worthy, but God has his reasons for not answering that prayer.
There's a country music song that rings true. The partial lyrics go like... "Sometimes God's greatest gift is unanswered prayers". Listen to the song to see what I mean.

There maybe a cosmic hand in our destiny but prayer is one of the best inventions of all time. It calms the mind. it brings things into focus. It gives strength and hope to all of us. Religion doesnt even come into prayer, it is so personal, a one to one with our Maker.

First of all, we should realize the truth we are not this body but are spirit soul living in the body. Body is temporary and spirit soul is eternal part and parcel of the the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the spiritual world. We left the Lord and came to this temporary miserable material word to enjoy independent of the Lord by misusing our free-will.
While one the material platform, we pray to the Lord to give us material things so that we can enjoy. But material world is temporary and it will not us or Lord happy since the material happiness is temporary, flickering and transient.
In the material platform, there is no harmony of interest. A farmer prays to the Lord for rains and a potter prays to the Lord for sunshine so that he can dry his pots. Thus the Lord is put into a kind of dilemma to fulfill two different prayers at the same time. So, in the material world, he arranges for Karma and reactions, by saying, "As you sow, so shall you reap".
But, when we come to the spiritual platform, we pray to the Lord not for any material temporary things which will be finished, but to save us from the danger of ocean of material existence. We are in a miserable temporary material world. But we as spirit soul belong to the spiritual world to be with Lord. When we realise our awkward and dangerous position we pray to the Lord to take us out of the material world. Just like there is a very famous prayer of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu praying to Lord Sri Krishna, "My dear Lord Krishna , I am your eternal servant. Somehow or other, I am now fallen in this ocean of material existence. Please pick me up and fix me again as a particle of dust of Your lotus feet". Similarly we are praying to the Lord to save us from the ocean of nescience, ignorance.
If we don't realise that we are in danger we don't pray. But when we realise we are in danger, we automatically pray to the Lord to save us. For example, when the child is lost in a crowd, the child cries and hearing the crying child, the parents come and pick it up.

The purpose of prayer is not to convince God to take action. The purpose of prayer is for us to realize that our needs are in the hands of God. When we know that our fate is in the hands of God, we begin to trust Him more and trust is the basis of love. There are many forms of prayer - worship, praise, thanksgiving, supplication, and intercession.
Prayer is an expression of our relationship with God
