People have a need to explain the unexplained. Nobody knows where we came from or how it all started so we make things up to explain them. Even after science has proven over and over that most of it did not happen they way it is stated, Some STILL believe in supernatural start to things.

Nobody can say for sure how it all happened so we as a people try to find the "religion" that most closely explains things in the mannor that we agree with. Bottom line... it is ALL speculation and blind faith. It is called a "BELIEF" system for a reason. Not called a "FACT" system.

We believe in religion because it gives us some hope of a higher purpose. All people do believe their religion is right, what they get confused on is that their religion is right for them and not for everyone. I would guess that we all want to be accepted and therefore feel that we want our belief to be shared by others. But in truth we all need to realize that every path leads to the same place, it is just the scenery along the way that differs.

This is my opinion! I believe that a lot of people are brainwashed from an early age in to believing that there is another life after death so they no longer have to fear death, they also have someone to talk to and share their problems with wherever they are, basically they are too weak minded to deal with life without having the idea that there is something better for them at the end of it. They blindly push aside all inconsitencies with their beliefs and continue to quote you with passages from the Greatest Chinese whispers collection in history - translated and interpreted by each religion to suit their own purposes and justify their actions in life. I'm not saying that I am undoubtedly right, but that's what makes it all fun. If I burn in Hell for all eternity for not believing, at least I won't have to worry about my heating bill or a good warm jacket to wear when it's raining. BBQ round at mine folks

We are intelligent creatures. Even atheists need to think things through and get a phililosophy. Living in an unthinking way is not an option for me. Perhaps a hedonist could live life for the next pleasure fix; I've been hedonistic at times but found it strangely unsatisfying.

The same reason someone follows a football team or rock band . There is a void in their life and religion fills it. A great opportunity for a conman to gain control of the masses.

Religions are different though the objectives of the people are almost the same. People tend to opt for religion that is more convenient for them in terms of their beliefs, values and sometimes societal beliefs.

Yes. They all stand for the same GOD and only due to neophyte and sectarian understanding, do people say this or that is right.

Consider the following for your judgement and decide it for yourself
Introduction to Bhagavad-gita-As-It-Is, by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.

Yet man professes to belong to a particular type of faith with reference to particular time and circumstance and thus claims to be a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or any other sect. Such designations are non-sanatana-dharma. A Hindu may change his faith to become a Muslim, or a Muslim may change his faith to become a Hindu, or a Christian may change his faith and so on. But in all circumstances the change of religious faith does not effect the eternal occupation of rendering service to others. The Hindu, Muslim or Christian in all circumstances is servant of someone. Thus, to profess a particular type of sect is not to profess one’s sanatana-dharma. The rendering of service is sanatana-dharma.

Factually we are related to the Supreme Lord in service. The Supreme Lord is the supreme enjoyer, and we living entities are His servitors. We are created for His enjoyment, and if we participate in that eternal enjoyment with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, we become happy. We cannot become happy otherwise. It is not possible to be happy independently, just as no one part of the body can be happy without cooperating with the stomach. It is not possible for the living entity to be happy without rendering transcendental loving service unto the Supreme Lord.

We believe in religions, because we realize that the religious Founders are the Messengers of the One True God.
Contradiction comes from lack of true learning to attain the love and knowledge of the One True God, the Creator and Sustainer of all worlds and creatures.
Now, with almost all the Holy Books easily accessible on the Internet, the faith of man will become more harmonious and unanimous.

Not all religions stand for the same thing. You're generalizing. If you have a valid point be specific and not afraid to criticize.
