My guess would be that the whole reason for a hunting season is to control the deer (or whatever is in season) population. While fishing, the catch and release laws are there for the same reason. Oh yeah, and probably because it makes more sense! You can't shoot and release... that's poaching!

While I think this is not a very good question....
I do agree with a few of the answers and disagree with others...

Shooting an animal and leaving it there is not poaching if you shot it legally and tagged it with appropriate tags. (if its big game). as horrible as that is to do, it's not illegal.

Shooting an animal with a camera, is a great way to 'catch & Release" So go use a camera if that's what you're interested in.

paint balls or cameras but it is only fair that you follow the same rules and the same seasons and buy all applicable hunting licenses. Just like you do when you catch and release. I like what the waterfowlers said...shoot three times and the duck flies away...there goes a dead duck!

Thats rather pointless is it not, Or do you plan on riviving them afterwards.
If you feel this way then i think you need to sit down and think hard about your choosen persuit.
I do understand your thinking dont get me wrong, I belive if im hunting it then i can at least show it some respect/dignety by eating it, that dose not apply to vermin or course thoug Pigeons, rabbits etc are some good eating

When I go duck hunting, I shoot and release all the time. The ducks come flying in, I shoot my gun three times, and they keep on flying!

I love to hunt prabably more than anybody, but when I hunt I EAT what I kill. Hunting just for the sake of killing is wrong. So how about hunt and eat as opposed to hunt and release??

Possibly because when you shoot, there is nothing worth releasing

You can, because you're probably a terrible shot.

So if you happen to unload the whole magazine and hit nothing but air, I think you can release the animal.

The fish can still live, the object shot generally doesn't.
