I have only had to use it once and did not notice any bad oder or unpleasant smell.

I used it a lot as a gymnast--it was great for the tears we got on our hands from swinging around on bars--and it for sure smells. I guess if you're using it for its intended purposes, you wont notice the smell as much :)
