Iraq was historically known as Mesopotamia. And had a Sumerian culture followed latter by Babylonian and Assyrian cultures going back to 5000BC.
If your talking about modern day Iraq though you would have to say when it was granted independence in 1932. But was occupied again by the British due to strong leanings of the government towards Nazi Germany. Independence was again restored in about 1947. Iraq went through numerous different stages after this, including a monarchy, a military coup and then finally another coup in 1968 by the Baathist party to be eventually dominated by Saddam Hussein until 2003.

A looooooooonnnngggg time ago. 10.000 years ago there are the first traces of people. 6000 years ago they had agriculture.
