Actually, God made a covenant with Abraham (who was a Jew), the Jews did not discover God. Abraham, like we Christians had a choice and believed and obeyed God. Abraham, like us are blessed by this same one and only God when we do believe and follow Him. We believers are seeds of Abraham (you don't have to be Jewish for this). Anyone can realize there is God, when we accept Jesus in our mind, heart and soul and make Him the master of our life instead of ourselves. Let go and let God.

Actually, the Jews were NOT the first to have just one God, or at least one who was over other minor gods. The Sumerians worshiped one God, as did the Aztecs. Both groups acknowledged other godlike creatures, but there was one major God. The Jews simply had better press than the other groups

Actually there was already the concept of ONE God in other parts waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the Jewish people. But the Jewish people's God kicked the Egyptians gods butt so that's why the Jewish God is famous.

The Hindu, the Iranian, the Egyptian... and other people also knew about the One True God even earlier than the Jews, but we have kept historical record for the period of 6,000 years. God reveals Himself to mankind from eternity to eternity to remind them about His love and knowledge through His successive Divine Messengers. It is quite wrong to claim that any race among mankind was exclusively chosen by God.

According to the Bible, the belief in God (and that there was one God) preceded the Jewish people. Rember that Enoch and Noah both preceded Abraham and the Jewish people. It is also possible that the book of Job predates Abraham.
The knowledege of God goes all the way to Adam and Eve, who walked with him in the garden. So you will find knowledge of him in all races and religions. God has always been trying to get people to know and understand him. He finally got a "winner" in Abraham, who was able to understand and start a revelation that would lead to God's final revealing of Himself in Christ.

God made Adam, and walked in the garden of Eden with him.
He gave Noah the plans for the ark.
He spoke to Abram and told him to move from Mesopotamia into Canaan.
Man did not seek God, God sought man.
Abraham did not make a covenant with God, God made a covenant with Abraham.
Got it!

Well it started with Adam and Eve and God planned the whole thing.
When He separated His people, Israel it was part of His plan of showing the rest of the world Who He was. He did it in how He miraculously took care of them...even though they, as a people were so disobedient over and over again.
God made them promises He keeps to this day....and after He sent His Son for them, and they rejected Him, God said..."Ok...if you won't listen, I will allow the Gentile people to be saved....which is the Christian Church....and for a period of time we call "the Church Age" He is still allowing them to come to Him and be saved....and most of Israel is still not listening.
But if you read the book of Revelation, and other prophecies...the day will come when Israel will realize the truth and mourn ...and God will restore "His people"...and God warns everyone to pray for Israel.....but he will punish all who turn against them....which is why Christians want to support Israel as He has told them to do.
But God is not willing that any should perish...if they listen when He says there is One True God....but also teaches He is a triune God...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit....it is all thru the Bible...His plan to save mankind for Himself.
But Israel is His chosen people.....God planned it that way.

They were not the first to conceptualize a God. Actually Yahweh does show a striking similarity to other Gods that originated before he did.

God chose Israel as the first nation to know Him. However the Jews missed the first coming of Jesus to the gain of all non-Jews. The first has therefore become the last in knowing Jesus and enjoying His salvation here on earth and for eternity.
