That's kind of a broad question.

Hereditary cancers aren't 100% hereditary. Yes, certain families are more succeptible to certain kinds of cancers than others, but there is so much that isn't known about cancer, and so much that can be done to prevent it, that the chances of developing it are really varied.

For example, if breast cancer runs in your family, you can attempt to beat the odds by using alternate forms of birth control (like condoms, instead of the pill), not drinking or smoking, having regular mammograms and monthly self-checks, eating healthy and exercising, etc.

With almost all forms of cancer, even the ones that seem to have some genetic link, there can be many different risk factors. Having a family history of cancer is only one of them. Avoid the others, and you lower your chances of getting cancer.

Just a clarifaction, no one is conceived with cancer with the sole exception of choriocarcinoma. Therefore, cancer is NOT inherited.

Suspectibility to cancer is however inherited. Basically, cancer is a set of genetic mutations. So, people who inherit some of these mutations are part way there. They need the rest of the mutations to get full blown cancer. It's like being at the edge of a cliff. Nothing is guranteeing you fall over but, your risks are much higher. The same is true with hereditary cancer risk. Just because you have a family history of cancer does not mean you will get it. Your risk is much higher. The converse is true too. No family history does not gurantee no cancer.

No one knows, but just to be safe take vitimin c. The FDA says that the RDA for vit c is 64 mg a day. Linus Pauling who got a Nobel Prize for his work on vit c and a second Nobel Prize for organic chemestry says 1000 mg a day normally and 2000 mg a day if you are sick. Try it. A few years ago there was a research papaer out that said Interferon was the best cancer and infection fighter available, but it was $15,000 a gram. What the paper also said was that Interferon was the product of the natural breakdown of vit c in your system. Shortly after that paper came out the FDA tried to put vit c on perscription only. Guess why?? I had "something" that had me sick 2 weeks twice a year with at least one week in the middle flat on my back. After 25 years of doctors not knowing what it might be I started vitimin C therapy when I got sick. I took enough to keep me asymptomatic and just below too much to give me diarrea. It followed a bell curve over 2 weeks and at the peak I was taking 40,000 mg a day with 300,000 mg over 2 weeks. I did that when I got sick for 2 years and have never gotten sick in the last 10 years. Look into it.

I don't know - I would imagine when cancer runs in a family that people are more subseptible to it. My Grandfathers, Grandfathers, 2 aunts and cousin have all died from cancer - but they all had different types.
