Wow, did this draw poison from a nasty wound!
Anyway, happy Darwin Day yourself.
I know you didn't claim he was an atheist, which some of these seem to think. Darwin was pretty much agnostic - he couldn't countenance a benign god looking over us, certainly not after his beloved daughter died at the age of 8. He may not have set out to disprove the existence of God, but then Alexander Fleming didn't set out to kill bacteria when he let mould form in his petri dishes. Good science isn't goal-oriented.

Not Bad...
Darwin's theory only provided a basic understanding of Nature with respect to the variation of Species, his theory does not prove or disprove the existence of or need for God.
To believe that there is no higher intelligence in the Universe is a Naive point of view, dare I say; even more Naive than that of True believers.
Evolution, with respect to man: Our Evolution has been led away from the "physical" to the mind and to technology; evidence of this evolution is everywhere (planes/IT/phones, etc)
Remember: All of Gods Creatures, "except Christians" evolve.

I think by claiming this you are dishonouring Darwin by claiming he intended to do something that he certainly did not intend. Indeed Darwin did not consider himself an atheist at all "an Agnostic would be the more correct description of my state of mind."
You are also insulting the work and memory of thousands of atheists who lived long before Darwin.

Very well thank you, Darwin was a great man, and did more for humanity than the notion of god ever did.

Darwin was Christian! He never tried to disprove God, he simply wanted to explain how humans developed. His thesis appeared irreligious to the people at the time, however he never renounced God. Ironic isn't it? The man atheists herald as their founding father" was religious!
