Here are some you want to avoid: Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina, Iams, Pedigree, and anything that can be purchased at a grocery store or Walmart. Usually the number one ingredient is corn, not good in any way for canines. Several decent foods you can find at chain pet stores are Chicken Soup, Nutro, California Natural, Eagle Pack and Solid Gold. If you're willing to pay a little extra for some really excellent natural dog food, check out Innova's line of dog food called EVO, it is very high quality with no fillers and completely natural using human grade ingredients. Usually this can only be found at independent pet stores/feed stores. Another great couple of brands are Wellness and Canidae. A good diet & regular exercise will make him what U want. Only good diet will make him obese. So Exercise is must. A Gsd needs 6-8 km walk daily. Royal Canine make spl food for Gsd. Go 4 it. Double Coat Gsd weight around 30kg & Single Coat around 50kg

Yar u know something,I had a GREATDANE female.Her height was nearly 5ft & her weight was 65kgs.This is not obesity but a good ferocious dog,but u know something We r pure bhramins.We don't even use eggs.Our dog ate 4 times a day.
Morning 1/2 litres milk.
Afternoon a small glass full rice boiled+soyabean + 1carrot+ 25 gms beans+ curd.
Evening 4 Chappatis or rotis,& eve 200ml milk.If u want me to send her photo,Mail me at

Go natural & if requires for 2 eggs a day
Please don't go for N.V as I say but if ur doctor suggests go ahead.

I raise german shepherds and there are several food that work wonders in getting them to the right height and size. Iams large breed is good and the dogs tend to like it, Authority is an all natural dog food and is offered from petsmart, The best is royal cannin. Our dogs really loved that one. It really made their coats look good and the food is breed specific. They make it in german shepherd formula. None of these had any cons. It's just up to your budget and what your dog likes. Never feed your dogs milk. A good, large breed formula dog food like Iams, Science diet or Eukanuba will work very well. Royal Canin is good, but slightly more expensive.
