caused by petrol, diesel etc etc. the reason being that these oils are lighter that water, therefore water will form a layer below the oil and they will continue to burn. one should use sand or extinguisher

electric fires should specifically not be put out by water since water is a good conductor of electricity. thus if water is thrown over a live wire ,the whole puddle of water becomes a carrier of current and if someone steps into the puddle he or she will get an electric shock even if hes not in contact with the wire
