No. Any decent primary care provider should be able to handle hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia(high cholesterol), minor aches and pains, and common infections. There are many more things a general GP can handle as well. I would only go to a specialist if you happen to be complicated subject that was refractory to traditional therapy or intolerant to it. With high cholesterol-unless it is very, very high-you aren't gonna be in dire straits today, and you can just make an appointment to see you regular doctor. Depending on you levels and lifestyle you may be able to get your bad cholesterol down and your good cholesterol up without any meds.

the best place is to do all your research that you can so you are the most informed patient; when I have a condition, that is what I do and then I seek the specialists in that area; search out their credentials etc, research to see if any malpractice issues etc; have gone to some health lectures to listen about the topic etc; the better informed you are for own sake. There are also natural remedies to help lower cholesterol as well; some people just have trouble no matter what they do , more biological ; do your research and no yourself since you are the patient.
