Hi, I been living in my street now for about 26 years and recently builders have moved in to my street to do building work, they block my street so cars can’t pass, is that against the law?, also a elderly neighbour collapsed in her house at the bottom of my street and emergence services could not get through because of them builders. It took them 10 minutes to move there vans.
Its really getting to me! this have been going on for about 6 months, they can very easily park a little up so people can get there cars passed if you try and talk to them they just don’t want to know, they also not the most intelligent bunch of people you ever seen most the time they pick there a**es and talk funny in grunts and growns , do anyone know a good site about laws in the UK and my rights, it would be very appreciated thanks :-).

Contact Citizens Advice and see what they can do, Phone the police and tell them you think something really bad is happening down the road, they'll have to respond and move the builders vans, or just report them yourself....dunno really good luck

It is an offence to prevent passage to and fro along the public highway. The simplest thing is to call out the police and ask them to move the builders on. Keep doing it if it keeps happening. If the day to day plods are unhappy about helping, go to your local station and ask to speak to the Superintendent. Take photographs, try and get the local paper interested - the story about the elderly neighbour and the emergency services would be great for them. Also might be worth trying to find out who the builders are working for and getting a deputation of neighbours up to speak with them.

Contact your local council office and they will put you in touch with the right department, who will advise you on the rules. However, as a Site Manager, I know that if I want/need to block off a street for any length of time, I need to aquire a permit. This it turn will be displayed on lamp posts at each end of the affected area. If they are breaking the law, they will get a hefty fine.

Get in touch with your local council Highways section - if they are blocking or obstructing the road they can be fined - it is an offence to obstruct the highway!
The council will be more than interested in the fact that emergency vehicles cannot pass as they could be held accountable if someone could not be reached by Fire or Ambulance Service and was severly injured/killed!

are they actually blocking the road or just making it very hard to access it,there is a diffewrence,if they are blocking it then ask to speak to the site foreman who will or should speak to the workers and stop it from happening,be calm and dont let him think you are being picky, just tell him your problem and inform him you do not want any problems with the builders just access to be kept clear, make a note of his name etc and the registrations of the offending vehicles as well,if this does not resolve the matter then give the details to the police, who will especially as you have already tried yourself resolve the matter,it is definitely an offence to block the road.

It is illegal for them to block the public highway without a licence granted by the Local Authority. That is absolute.
You are entitled to photograph them for evidence and report them to the police and Town Hall for obstruction.

Dont be hasty, he would have had no option, perhaps somebody else had parked carelessly. If it nonetheless happens there is no longer lots you're able to do. i've got faith you haven't any longer have been given any criminal entitlement to park in front of your own residence, and that's barely courtesy to no longer block neighbours get entry to I dont think of appropriate of get entry to applies. attempt and be friendly with around the corner and tell relax of relatives to do comparable. greater effective all around while you're friendly, makes existence friendly. in case you elect some thing executed then dont enable the builder get off internet site without him sorting it out. He would have some thing written into the deeds.

It's an offence to block the highway, without consent of the Highway's Authority. Contact your local council, Roads department and ask for advice. Write to your local councillor and MP (MSP).

If they are blocking a public right of way they are committing an offence. Best bet, ring the local cop shop and report them.
