i am thinking about installing vista. i've installed and run windows vista upgrade advisor. i have lexmark all in one printer and scanner (x75). the upgrade advisor said "There is no compatibility data available for this device". does this mean i won't be able to print after installing vista. if so, how can i solve this problem. i did download the latest driver last night.

also i have 256.00 MB of RAM. the advisor says i need 512 MB to run the core experiences of Windows Vista. where can i download more space from and is it a problem if i don't.

also is there a test trail of vista i can run.

what version should i buy to cater my needs. i want everything to look good and not have the problems i have listed above (if possible). i'm either getting home basic or home premium.

thanks everyone

i just got vista myself.........i also have the lexmark printer/scanner, and it works fine........as for ur ram.....windows xp also advices to have 512 mb ram......but ive never had a problem w/ that either. If the ram is an issue just buy another 256 mb stick of ram and put it in ur comp. (u cant download ram its hardware). Any of the Vistas will meet ur need but, the premium has more visuals ,DO NOT GET THE BETA VERSIONS!!!!......get the vista and run it......u wont have any problems......everyone is a lil testy when they run a new OS (operating system)......u wont be dissapointed.....

Don't do it, It will take 6 months to debug, and the standard response from Microsoft, is that your software is incompatible with Vista.

I have McAlfie anti virus, and it does not run in Vista. Microsoft tells me that it is a problem with my anti-virus software, which is incompatible with Vista, and I should switch to Norton Symatech.

I pointed out that my virus software is a much older programme than Vista, thus it is a problem with Vista, and could they supply a patch - they said, that they would be upgrading the system, and after a few minutes of arguing, admitted that it may take 6 months for the system to be ironed out.

I wasted two days installing this rubbish to my new Acer laptop, which is the top specification machine, brand new. RAM is ramdon access memory, and you have to physically put it into the computer, it is hardware. My new laptop has two gig of ram, but still it was slow with vista, thus I removed it and put Xp home onto it - and its like greese lightning now..

Vista used so much of the system to run, and it does not allow you to install more than three hardware upgrades to your system. It is a nightmare, and will need a new generation of machines faster than what is currently available to operate a the similar speed to most existing software.

Get the upgrade in 5 to 6 months time, when it has been corrected, and tested by the idiots who have jumped on the band waggon.

Home basic isn't worth crap it doesnt have the Aero glass effects, get Windows Home Premium if you get anything. You cannot download RAM, you have to buy it, its hardware. Any computer shop will install it, dont have it installed unless they install it for free, or you do it yourself, you still have to buy the RAM though.

There is no test trial of vista. There are many driver problems currently with windows vista. Theres a pretty good chance your printer wont work either, unless you go to lexmark website and download compatible windows vista driver.

I would contact Lexmark or look on their website for complete info on Vista drivers for their products. As of yet there are no Vista drivers posted for this unit.

512 MB of the is the absolute minimum. You don't download RAM .. you need to purchase extra RAM modules compatible with your main board & install them physically into the PC.

I would not suggest upgrading to Vista with less than 1GB total RAM. This will cost you about $100 U.S.

There are no longer any Beta or trial versions of Vista available for download.

Go to this site to see the different editions of Vista & what they include :

you cannot download a RAM. RAM is a part of computer you can buy that on computer store. 512 MB of RAM for vista is the minimum requirment.
Distribution of Trial version is now over, if you have a friend who obtain a copy you can borrow that.

hey am not being nasty here, but it seems that you know very little about computers, especially as you think RAM is a download.

i have built many computers and a few networks, and even I had trouble installing Vista on my computer, so I suggest you ask a tecchie to upgrade you're computer for you.
