it s been nearly 2 weeks after my extraction. so today i decided to use mouthwash. but i don't gargle too hard. after that i ate nugget. so when i wash my mouth i noticed something white at the hole where my extraction has been done, at first i thought it was my chewed nugget, so i took the food half of it. but then i realized maybe it the medicine that my doctor put into my gum during my extraction. maybe the mouthwash made it out of my gum. please help, is it wrong to use mouthwash after 2 weeks of extraction? is the 'thing' in my mouth is really the nugget or it it the medicine? please help i know this is like a silly question.

Since you are eating a full diet and not complaining of any pain, I think what you are seeing is just a piece of gum which has been injured. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a mouthwash at this point in your healing- matter of fact a good swish and rinse is probably not a bad idea because you do still have a hole of sorts in the gum where food and bacteria can get caught. You should also be "brushing" that portion of the healing gum, at least with your finger or a piece of gauze, to remove bacteria and plaque until it is healed enough to withstand your toothbrush. If you notice any pain or bleeding with this, then you probably should return to the dentist to let him have a peek. As I said, it likely is just a piece of the gum which has to heal yet, and looks white due to lack of blood supply. Food should swish out and down the drain, and mouthwash is an excellent choice to do that with. Plain old water is also a good choice when all else is unavailable.

I just had my wisdom teeth out last monday and my dentist GAVE me mouth wash to use! And when I went yesterday to get my postop check up he gave me a lil syringe(sp) it has a lil hook on it and he told me to fill it with the Peridex he gave me(thats mouthwash) and told me to squirt it in the hole and swish lightly and that will get all the food out that gets in the holes? So thats what I know.

Don't worry about it. It is just the healing process. Nothing will get trapped in there if that's what you are worried about. Just maintain oral hygiene and you will be fine.

You lost me somewhere in all that, but anyway, any medicine that the doctor put in your gums should be done with by now. Unless you take the "thing" out you won't know for sure.

it may be a piece of gauze in the hole. two weeks seems fine to use mouthwash, but if you are in doubt, use warm salt water.
