What should they be doing?
We know one of them who did it, but the Mother just shrugged it of, what can we do?

Yes one of the offenders is under 17, we think they might have used a catapault as we are on a first floor. where we were lucky is in the fact that it's a doubleglaze window, and smashed the outer part and didn't come all the way thru, just waiting for council to fix it

If you have received a Crime Number, then contact the Police Station that dealt with the incident and ask to speak to the Officer dealing with the case. If you have find that you are not getting anywhere, speak to the Duty Inspector and failing that write to the Superintendent, whilst copying the letter to your local Councillor / MP.

I have found that although the Police can seem to be slow, they are following up enquiries and passing the case to your local Neighbourhood team (if you have one). Making a fuss & involving local politicians does tend to get things moving!

Even if you have not received a Crime Number, you should ensure that this is reported.

I notice that you say that the mother (of the offender) shrugged it off, suggesting that this was carried out by a juvenile, i.e. under 17 years old. If the juvenile is over 10 years old, then they can be treated and prosecuted as a juvenile.

From my experience, we had a lad of 9 throw a brick through our window and all the Police could do was speak with his legal guardian.

I hope that you sort things out.

A very god friend of mine used to be a 999 operator, up until 12 months ago.

She advised me at the time that they often have to call victims back 12 hours+ after calls have been ecieved reporting crimes; e.g. Once she had to call a person to ask if the person they saw breaking into a car 12 hours earlier was still at the scene .... Crazy by true!

Anyhow, she advised me that there really aren't enough Police officers to deal with the numbe of crimes being reported.

Another thing is that, everytime a crime is reported and a name is given, or an address, the operator must make checks against information recieved before giving officers the go ahead to enter properties, just in case they might need back up.

I would go with previous advice given, return the favour, even if you get someone you know to do it who isn't afraid of being nicked. It's the only way nowadays, they don't need to announce why they've done it, it's just a matter of making sure you cost that person what they've cost you.

Sorry about your window. It's a shame but all they can do is enter your details into a database and issue you a crime ref.

They will also monitor the crime rate in your area and issue this information to the local authorities, Who in turn publish this information to insurance company's and estate agents who pick this up and not only does you premium rate raise when you renew but you house price goes down as the area has become less desirable. So ironically you are better off not calling the police and doing nothing with the little s*** otherwise you'll be the one in prison and fixing the window out of you own pocket!
Sad I know but welcome to Briton!

Did they give you a crime number?if they did or if they gave you an incident number ring back quoting this and ask what is happening.Did you tell them you have a suspect?that makes a difference to the response. If you just said a window had been broken that would be put down as low priority and in some busier forces no further action than to give you a crime number. It is difficult to advise you without fuller info.

The police might take their time, but they will come. My door window got smashed by my neighbour and it took 4 days for the police to come. I'd ring them again though just to give them a nudge.

Not alot, unless you have proof of who it was you can show/give to the police.... unfortunately it wont be a high priority thing with the police, they dont seem to get anything done in regards to criminal damage or theft etc ... they seem to be classed as petty crime now days.
Just fix your window and move on, sorry.

Write to the police station asking for an update on your case. They HAVE to reply to your letter and they may take your case more seriously!

Good luck
