I have just spent the last few months growing out my old permanant hair colour, and am wanting to get my hair died again. I was thinking of just going semi this time. What do u know about semi, does it stain hair forever and is it better for your hair than permanant?

Semi will wash out gradually and the colour will last for approximately 3-4 months depending how much you wash your hair each week.

I believe Semi is not so damaging on the hair as permanent colour. Also you will not get obvious dark roots with Semi that you can get with permanent colour.

Semi permanent hair colour is restricted to the colour shades of your own hair colour, but advice on this is usually on the box, just have a read before making your purchase.

Boots usually have a pretty good choice or if you want something less damaging try your local health food shop, they may have a hair care and hair colour section.

Semi-permanent hair colours usually last for 6-8 weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair. I don't think they are any better or worse for your hair than permanent. Obviously if you go lighter, then there this can be more damaging due to the peroxide which can dry your hair out. Also make sure you do the sensitivity test first to protect your skin and scalp.

Have fun :)

I am a hairdresser/colorist....and making the decision between permanent, demi, or semi haircoloring depends on what color you are to begin and what results you are looking for. Are you light wanting to go dark? Are you dark wanting to go light? Are you gray wanting to cover it? Unfortunately, you did not give enough information. Each situation requires a different approach. And we won't even go into the type of hair you have fine, medium, course, damaged, healthy, dry, or oily. Any hairdresser worth her salt considers and evaluates all of the above and more. If you are trying to cover gray the demi or permanant color would be my choice. If you have dark hair with no gray and you are trying to impart a bit of a different color into your hair then by all means a semi color can be fun. Permanent haircolors have harsher chemicals involved. Semi colors usually have developers that are amonia and peroxide free and are easier on the hair but they do wash/fade out. I do hope this helped some. Good luck.

The solution is a quasi ! a semi washes out between 6-8 washes a permanent as you know ,grows out . A quasi will last up to 6-8 weeks and is kinder to your hair and you wont be stuck with it.

I wold prefer semi's, they usually fade after a couple of weeks rather than having to wait for the colour to grow out. And they seem to give your hair more of a shine than permanent colour

I would try semi-permanent first to see if you like the color, and if you do then dye it permanently. It's a lot easier if it turns out you don't like the color once it's on your head! Hope I helped!

I always found smie-permanent hair dye a bit of a waste of time. It seems to last about 4 washes (even if it claims to be longer) and then vanish. I always use permanent, you can always dye over it if you don't like it.
