I`m having problems with my weight and I know because I eat more and practice less. How can I find out exactly how many calories I eat, compared to how many I should be eating? What should I do if I burn more calories than I eat and no result shows up? Thanks.

I don’t think you need to worry about that. It`s impossible to burn more calories than you eat and not to lose ANY weight. It`s easy to see how many calories you eat, just use a calorie counter. Try the one from http://www.projectweightloss.com –it`s free and they also have a diet and workout planner. You can set your target weight, and the program calculates how many calories you need to eat to reach that weight, and whether you`re over/under the target.

The number of calories should be on the package of items that you buy. If it is produce or meat, then the USDA has a site with these items. In the US, all the percentages are based on a 2,000 calorie diet, which is a maintenance diet for someone who gets moderate daily exercise... for most people, they will not lose weight on that many. To lose weight, you are looking at an intake around 1200 to 1500 calories per day.

Your question about burning more calories than you eat - that is the way to go. But, remember that your body has a BMR - Basal Metabolic Rate - or calories that you are going to burn even if you are just sitting on the couch watching TV. If you are eating 1200 calories, and burning 1400 calories on the treadmill (that's a LOT of running!), then you actually have a 1200 calorie deficit, not a 200 calorie deficit. Your body WILL go into starvation mode at that point.

If you are burning a lot of calories, then you need to eat more. When your body perceives that you are starving, you will be resistant to losing weight. The numbers can get a little tricky here, but there are a number of sites on the internet that can help you figure this out. Google search on BMR should give you a couple sites.

You definitely need a regular workout program if you want to lose weight in a healthy way. I suggest you be careful with all those diets everyone talks about. Some of them are really not as good as they’re supposed to. The whole thing is to burn more calories than you eat. I also suggest using a diet and workout planner. Don`t worry, results will show up!
