All during history people have put their faith in books like the bible and the koran which were written by manipulative men to control the masses.Hoping to give them a set of values to live by so their societys would be more productive.
I don't think GOD cares if you are christian, muslim, jew, atheist or not.
Religions are the reasons why Man will soon destroy the beautiful planet GOD made so his creations could thrive in peace.

You are presenting your ideology as if God has no input on the actions of people.

God can talk to people, people can relay this information in writing. Other people can mis-interpret the information or use the information inappropriately.

The same can be said of any leader. Recently the first Muslim Congress person in the United States was sworn in using a Koran from the Collection of Thomas Jefferson.

It was claimed that Thomas Jefferson accepted the ideology of different religions and this is why he had a Koran. Reading the Danbury Baptist letter it is obvious Thomas Jefferson believed that the term he coined, "Separation of Church and State", to mean "no sect" of Christianity. In fact Thomas Jefferson went so far as to re-translate portions of the New Testament.

Several other interesting things about Thomas Jefferson are:

He warned Congress in 1786 about "musslemen" who believed they had the right and duty to kill unbelievers and that those who died in this endevor would go to paradise.

He wrote letters about the "terrorism" practiced state sponsored Islamic pirates, commonly known as the Barbary Pirates.

He lobbied against the treaty with Tripoli which paid extortion fees to Islamic nations.

He is the first President to declare war against an Islamic nation because of state sponsored terrorism. Tripoli in 1801.

People spin things any way they want, and that is neither God's fault nor Thomas Jefferson's fault.

As Thomas Jefferson wrote in one of his letters, (paraphrased) readers in the future will need to decide for themselves what I believed by reading my writings for themselves.

So must we all, so I encourage you to read both the Bible and the memoirs of Thomas Jefferson. Both are freely downloadable from Gutenberg.org.

Without being educated on a subject you can only continue to develop uneducated opinions based on the research of others.

First, you are entitled to your own opinion.

Second, I don't think it is oppressive to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind; and to love your neighbor as you do yourself.

Which of these do you object to?
How will following these destroy the planet?

I think loving the Lord your God is necessary if you believe in God.
I think loving your neighbor as yourself is very helpful in living with your neighbor.

Besides, the reverse of these would be to hate God and your neighbor and hate destroys the human soul.
People who hate are destroyed by their hate.

I think there is a religion that teaches hate from birth, and it is because of them that we have been involved in war for the last 20 years in many different countries.

People who live by the sword will die by the sword.

"Control" would certainly seem to be a big part of organized religion. Too many people are more focused on the "do's and don'ts" than just enjoying life; they have to be concerned about whether their actions might be "right or wrong."

That's OK when it concerns how we treat one another; we should have some sense of respect and sympathy and benevolence toward others, but when it comes to our own personal pleasures it shouldn't be such a sense of restriction.

I saw a program once where they said the Catholic Church set out to control peoples sexuality. What with celibate Fathers, and virgin Mothers. Why would they make sex so evil when God said, Multiply and fill the earth. God gave this command to a man and women, so both had thier role to fulfill. How could they do that without having sex?

Yes. Religion yes. But a relationship with God as your Father through the love of Jesus, well that's not control so much as it is love.
