Here's the answer to your question:
When you see that a Muslim - usually a male - dyes his hair red it is because he is trying to follow the Sunnah (what the Prophet Muhammad pbuh did). The Prophet said not to pull out the gray hairs but to color them with henna instead. And since that was the known way of doing so back then, henna is what they used. Not that gray hair was bad by any means - in fact there is a hadith about it that says one shouldn't pull the gray hairs because they are the good deeds - don't quote me because I don't remember the entire hadith. If you want to know just email me and I'll look it up.
One last thing - Muslim females have used henna before but most prefer to use regular color these days. It's just a preference if one wants to color her hair.

The Holy Prphet(pbuh) used to color his beard red. It is actually henna. This is why they do it.
I think henna is good for making your skin feel cool in hot weather as well.

Who says so?
Probably they prefer Henna (which is available widely and which is also used in festive occasions) to expensive chemical-based hair dyes.
