I have a 9 year old step brother, I hardly sees him, just recently my Dad ask for my help to tutor him because he didn't do so well in school. As I mentioned, he is 9 years old, but yet couldn't speak clearly. I couldn't understand most of the word he was saying. He couldn't spell/read long words and not able to make short sentence. He is also poor in maths, but able to count correctly if I draw or uses other objects in teaching. I am now using the first grade activity book, but he is still slow. Should I advised my Dad to send him to a dyslexia/special school?

At nine years old, not being able to speak properly is unlikely to be a sign of dyslexia although its possible to have this and other learning difficulties. Have you considered dyspraxia or mild autism?? these can affect language skills.
There are so many symptoms for dyslexia, the best thing to do is book an appointment and get him tested for it, then you'll no for sure.

ok you've a complicated issue that I actually have dealt with for over 40 years...yet do not panic. Our minds paintings in a unique way than maximum persons besides the undeniable fact that it is not dyslexia. In our minds "issues" (pictures) take a higher priority over words and numbers hence we may be able to comprehend some thing if we are shown the thanks to do it quite than being informed or interpreting about it. those pictures (issues) stay with us longer and larger advantageous. As you grow old you'll be in a position to apply this ability to a significantly better volume than you are able to in college. I nonetheless love spell checker besides the undeniable fact that because I nonetheless have a troublesome time spelling particular words. I used this ability to come across a loop hollow in college coverage and ditched maximum of my senior 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and nonetheless graduated decision 2 in my type academically talking. I also finished college and Grad college in 6 years figuring out on up a Masters in pc technology, and Bachelors ranges in organization administration, Aviation administration, historic previous, American Literature, practise, and Language Arts. i found that the secret to taking checks grow to be to visualise the question as a chain of images like a comic book e book format. This then made it a lot less complicated to discover the most ideal answer (image) on numerous decision checks. Essays were a lot a lot less complicated to do to boot through seeing the picture then putting that image into words. in case you need more beneficial assistance please drop me a line. As a aspect be conscious i grow to be also a center college instructor for a number of years.

I think you should talk to your Dad about your concerns about your step brother. I don't know if they are symptoms of dyslexia, but your Dad might want to discuss these issues with your step brother's teachers and find out what the problem is.

Not really, but there could be something.... Explain what you are thinking to your dad, then he should go to the school to talk to the teacher. Your brother may have do be evaluated more, and see an educational psychologist for testing.

I don't think he's dyslexic as you didnt mention anything about him reading backwards. He could be challenged in ways that only a proper evaluation can determine. I think you should talk to you pa, and suggest that they take him to a center for evaluation. You'll be doing him a lot of good. the earlier the better.

You should confront your father asap with your concerns. The longer you wait the slower your brother will become. Soon he will become so slow that you will have to look at him twice just to see him move. As for being dyslexic, he probably just reads backwards and does not know that it is wrong. Please talk with him and warn him of the horrors of reading backwards.

It sounds like he needs to be professionally evaluated for learning problems.
My question is why hasn't the school already suggested this? Your dad needs to go talk to his teacher immediately.
Good luck
