Anja Paerson has won the women's downhill in Are, Sweden in 1.26.89, would the men be any faster, if so, by how much?

Could men and women compete directly against each other?

On the same course men would be faster than women. Some of the top women like Paerson and Kostelick from Croatia have some of the biggest thighs I have seen on a women. They however lack the strength of the men. After all, if the men and women could ski the same speed, why do they have separate events? I would say that the men would be better prepared for the race because they have a much longer and steeper run than the women. This would give them a good advantage.

In athletic track events where men and women compete over the same distances, though not against each other, womens' times continue to lag behind mens', though the gap is closing.

I don't know of any event requiring strength, co-ordination and stamina where women are able, physically, to compete with men of the same age and technical ability.

That said I would be more than happy to see open, mixed gender sports events at every level, including top professional. If nothing else it would increase even more the rate at which womens' performances are improving and it would prove once and for all where the line is, at least for today, in every conceivable sport.

It would also justify women professionals getting the same money as men for the same level of performance in a mixed field. And I bet there would be a lot less spitting!

Really is tought to tell, I would assume that the guys will go a little bit faster than the women but they don't run the same course. The men run a longer course that starts a little bit higher up the mountain. yeah the women normally run around 1.26.5ish, the average time for the men on the Are Sweden course is about 1.50.25ish. Its tought to compare when they are skiing to different courses. With the men normally starting up higher on the mountain on a steeper slope The mens "top speed" during a run is going to be faster than any womens.

Yes men are faster than women because of the extra power and muscle that they have in their legs. The women are as exciting to watch as the men and have better butts but they would never go dual racing.

If their is no proof for 'Phisical Strength' to play a part,
then men / women can compete against each other.

Poker for instance is equal for both sexes,
Yet for some strange reason their is still 'Ladies Nights'.

male skiers are generally more muscular than female skiers, which means that in downhill, where its usually more about speed and less about agility, the men tend to fare better. they have better control over longer skis, (men are allowed to use longer skis than women) and they have more weight taking them down, which enables them to reach the finish line sooner than women. there are women who can outrace men, but generally men (whose races are longer than women's) tend to be faster in races such as downhill.

Doesn't matter. If the girl had waxed her skies and the guy didn't then she would go faster. It all depends on if they get a good start. I think that men and women can but I'm not exactly sure.
When i go skiing with my dad, i can outrun him. Also the wind and the mountain take a big part in it. duh.
