To be fair, I don't see how. Chernobyl was a disaster before the explosion. It was poorly built, poorly maintained and poorly manned. The nuclear meltdown was caused be an error during test that were being run without the properly qualified staff and was such a catasrophe because the reactor wasn't contained in a proper housing. Is it any surprise that what happened, happened?

Comparing the Chernobyl reactor to modern reactors is like comparing a car built 70 years ago to modern car. They were unstable, weren't built to a standard and not enough people knew what they were doing.

Done right, nuclear reactors can be the smoothest running piece of potentially volitile machinery with minimal risk. To be honest I'd be more worried about Korea.
