Start reading a hindi daily regularly.
Watch hindi movies and serials with headphone, even if they are boring.
Buy a hindi-english dictionary.
Get spoken hindi course material.
Contact the nearest Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan centre for a course in hindi.
After you have learnt something, don't afraid or hesitate to talk in hindi with your friends and acquaintances, even if it is grammatically incorrect.
Unless we speak out, we will not improve.
Ask your friends to teach you a sentence a day.

I think you should make some friends who speak Hindi,watch Hindi movies.It can improve your verbal Hindi but for written you have to take proper classes from a Hindi teacher.

If you are in India make friendship with a northindian background person. If you are living abroad them seek help from Indian cultural society. They do run hindi language classes and sometime they offer their services for free.

Don't worry,go to market,ask them to know their Hindi name,think 50% u will get success this way,and then to granary shop etc ...don't go at super market,u get 75%,make friendship to all who knows 'Achcha Hindi'.Then U get .....

you try getting a hindi tutor who knows english well.also,when you learn to read hindi,read as many books as you can as it will help a lot.
