what "solid" evidence do you have that backs up your position?

2007-02-11 22:07:24 · 7 answers · asked by town_cl0wn 4 in Environment

ok...thanks for the replies

just to address a few points made

1.climatologists are very much aware of the probable main causes of past climate changes, including long-term changes such as ice-ages...If you look at a previous answer of mine, I outlined the main causes of this as per what I was taught at university. Also, if the evidence for human influenced global warming was easily dismissed by using past records, climatologists would not put their reputations on the line otherwise.

2. Sudden changes in temperatures over the history of the Earth have also been taken into account and explained by using the scientific method.

3. Catalytic converters were introduced to reduce visible pollution, pollution that disrupted weather patterns in areas of the world that relied on seasonal rainfall and was the main reason for the apparant, global dimming effect, however, this only masked the effects of global warming...sorry, I don't have enough characters to go into details.

Unlike you folks, I don't claim to have any grandiose theories. But I *do* know (from solid, Geological evidence) that this planet has been many degrees colder and hotter than it is today. And I'm fairly certain that 'man' had little or nothing to do with that.

But check out

http://gly.fsu.edu/~kish/dynamic/global/LAS.htm
and a couple thousand more, if you want to go looking for them.

Bottom line.
The Earth has changed a *lot* before and it seems to have been due to natural causes (since there simply weren't enough humans around to have had any effect of the global climate)

It is reasonable to assume that the Earth will change in the future, as it has in the past, WHETHER OR NOT WE ARE EVEN HERE.

I certainly wouldn't disagree that we've done a lot of harmful things to the environment. But I'm unconvinced that we have done anything (or even have the capacity to do anything) which will cause huge changes in the Earths global weather system.

But even beyond all that (as I mentioned elsewhere), I am *real* upset by the current attitude that it is politically incorrect to even suggest that Al ('I invented the Internet') Gore and his followers are anything other than 150% correct. When asking questions in a spirit of scientific critique is 'politically incorrect', and when the only researchers who are able to get funding are the ones who buy into the current 'politically correct' views and conjectures (and who are willing to work hard and dilligently to find ways to 'prove' those views are 'scientifically correct'), then we are waltzing -very- dangerously close to what the Nazis had going on in WWII.

In the early 70's it was said we were going into an iceage, they made us put cataltic converters on our cars to convert the carbon monooxide to carbon dioxide FACT!, but it also decreased or fuel economy FACT which in turn made us use billions of more galllons of fuel since that time. Now we are going into "global warming?"
It was said that last year was the warnest on record - oh wait - I guess now "they" are saying; it was actually the the FIFTH warmest on record, they aren't even sure about last years facts, little lone the past decade and a quarter, since we have been "offically" charting the weather (late 1800's) a small blimp of time considering the earth is 100's of millions of years old, that too is something that "they" aren't really sure of, lol.
Listen, are we going through a warm spell?, yes of course we are. But any logical person would see that if you look at it
from the bigger picture; there must be more data and a more established trend for it to become a real problem. If I go to the casino and win $10,000 in one month I don't quit my job and assume it will happen every month do I? Well that would be the same as assuming global warming beacause one month of our time is far less than 125 years of the earth's age. Over the course of time there will be highs and lows, if not the weather could be predicted, but we all know how thw weather is. Can I flip a quater and have it land on "Heads" 20 times in a row? yes but if I keep flipping thimgs will go backto normal.
Has anyone asked why the polar icecaps on Mars are melting? Yes this is factual and had been observed from space in photographs from the last ten plus years. It is true all stars (our sun included) expand as they age, then they blow up. Wait, better not mention that because if iceage comes again they will try to scare us with that, I'm sorry for the incompleteness but it is the truth, look up catilitic converters. Al Gore himself predicted the end of the earth 10 years ago (Rush Limbough keeps that clock a ticking to remind people just how ludacris these Demacrates can be, George W just got scared into jumping aboard recentlya)
Hec, if given their hypothsis that we were going into an iceage prior to us putting those "engine snuffers" AKA catalitic converters, on our veichles then lets just remove them and it will get cold again, right? That is if they were right in the 70's

Bottom line is: There will be taxes on the goverment checking on buisnesses "greenness", more taxes on gas, and just plan more of goverment getting their hand into out pockets, that is after all the demacrates philosify, and I am NOT a Republican!
Good Day

There is very little scientific evidence to support global warming. The temperatures of the earth have flucuated to a great extent both warmer and colder for millions of years. Was it manmade in prehistoric times? I don't think so. We have polluted this planet much worse during the course of world war II. Why did we not have global warming then. It is a major money issue. Anything that can get promoted to take money away from people will be promoted. We can not change the course of history for this planet. If history says it is going to get warmer, then it will, if not, then it will not. We can not change what we can not control.

I've seen it with my own two eyes.

The island I was born on, has lost significant land within the last 30 years, because off-shore drilling created warmer water and stimulated land erosion.

A light house that I once played in as a child is now underwater except for the steeple.

The same scientists who helped in harnessing the natural resources - oil etc. - used their same smarts to determine the damage and called it 'global warming'

via fact there are not any information proving people reason worldwide warming. those are basically comments and maximum scientists right this moment say people are no longer the reason of any climate differences we adventure. you will desire to be utilising previous articles. between the solutions replace into from a man or woman who mentioned that any one who would not fall in line with the international warming believers is doing so via fact they do no longer choose to alter their existence. that's an exceedingly unfair generalization carried out with a view to silence people who've genuine doubts approximately this subject. additionally, that's basically no longer genuine. everywhere human beings have been recycling, reusing, automobile pooling and lowering on each and every little thing, besides the undeniable fact that that's by no potential sufficient. what's ironic is that the very people who recommend that we decrease our existence are increasing theirs. seem at Al Gore, who makes use of 25 situations the potential of the usually happening man or woman yet he makes hundreds of thousands telling us to diminish our potential makes use of. are you able to spell "charlatan" ? optimistically you and others will awaken and notice the certainty.

I don't deny some global warming, just the human influence. Evidence in in history, the earth warms and cools. Greenland, for instance, 500 years ago was warm enough to support farming. Now it is too cold there year round to farm. Also there were in recent history forest on Antarctica, logically the earth was warm enough to support this. You cant base a theory on a tiny sampling, it can't stand up to the scientific method. It all boils down to one thing, money.

Global warming is real. I have been snowboarding over here in Japan this year, and it is actually very hot up in the mountains during the coldest part of winter. Amazing really, I think we will see major changes in the earths climate during our life.
