Oregon is somewhat more relaxed than California, there is still a lot of nature. Oregon is beautiful and is not as crowded as are some parts of California.

Canada is much the same for the US: A place full of people that are nice but different enough to be interesting. Both locations are a lot like but diffrent enough.

I live in a small coastal town just north of the California border. Many Californians have second homes here. The climate is mild, with an average of 70 inches of rain per year. The beaches are wide open with very few people, and most access is public, not private. We are lucky to have some of the most beautiful beaches found on the face of the planet. We don't have a sales tax, so people from California stream across the border to buy everything from furniture to groceries to gasoline because it is cheaper. Finally, even though people know we are here, it is a little difficult to get here (no airports to speak of) so you have to either drive or take a boat ride. No matter how you get here, most agree, the trip was definitely worth the trouble. Hope that helps a little.

I would have to say because if you live in Washington, people often want to (and do) go to BC Canada either for their 'perfect' vacation getaway or to move to a slower paced, less crowded, yet still having culture and activities within easy reach area. I've found this to be true across the United States in all of the border states with Canada.

The same can be said about Oregon. Californians look at Oregon as the perfect place to live/vacation - if it didn't have all that rain - and for all the reasons Washatonians want to go to Canada.

I never heard that expression before, but it makes some sense. Canada is due north of the United States from coast to coast and Oregon is due north of California across the entire California border.

honestly Oregon is just better and more beautiful than California! Who wants to sweat all the time and fear that their deodorant is failing them? Give me rainbows and smiles over manicured nails and egos any day! :)
