Christians like to say the words "I value life", but in general they really don't seem to very much. Of course there are all kinds, and I know of Christians who seem to value life almost as much as atheists do. But we get a LOT of Christians here who proudly and excitedly tell us how eager they are for the world to end, and of course the whole Christian philosophy is based on the notion that life is relatively worthless.
I think that's a characteristic that evolved into Christianity in order to attract people whose lives ARE relatively worthless - the desperate folks struggling with drug addiction, health problems, persistent threats of violence, and just plain inability to function in the world. Christianity offers a refuge to people who simply aren't making it in the world, and since it can't always give them a leg up, it promises them that there's a better thing than life that comes later on.

A tend to think a Theist enjoys it more because they have paternity and atheists don't, well unless you call that monkey a relative.
Atheists, especially the randomist ones, think they're made from chemicals like BHT and Yellow #50, randomly by the cosmic chemistry casino that threw a lucky 7. You're a freak accident with an ape as a distant relative (most girls think it's a pig, but there's no scientific data about that). Everything out there, trees, blue sky, wind. All an accident.
Theists view it was all created by someone or something great. To us, the greatest.
It's a shame the minority atheists like to ruin it all with their PCBs, acid rain and A-Bombs, none of which, as far as I know, were created by Christians but all of which are polluting those blue skies and green trees.
It's a shame so many Christians got addicted to the Atheists "creationism" of things like the auto.
There are 50 million cars registered in the state of California alone.
I've often wondered, if you took all the cars in the world and connected their radiator hoses to the the Atlantic and Pacific and turned them on several hours each day how long it would take to turn those oceans into a hot tub!
Any idea, scientist! The engine block get what temperature? The water coming out is at the boiling point. The car circulates how much water per minute. There are 2-3 billion autos in the world. Running each of them several hours a day in waves, say 500,000,000 each wave. How long, scientist, before you raise the temperature of the ocean!
It's been 100 years already since the first autos were tinkered with. It only took 25 years to create smog in the big cities.
Yes, the atheist scientist knows how to apperciate the world! They give us the car and the a-bomb but then say "but let's not use them!"
Why create something you don't use!
Why are the atheist scientists so heck bent on creating and when they do they make pollutants as by products like the GE plant which muked up the Hudson river and now has to clean it up, yet they deny creationism of the universe.
If random chance can create a human, why not wait for it to create everything else, or isn't that cosmic chemistry casino still functioning!

I don't know the answer to your question because it must depend on the atheist and the theist. But you put your case very elegantly. I always wake up grateful to sheer circumstance that I am able to live and appreciate the life I have. As Douglas Adams said, it should be enough to appreciate a beautiful garden without having to imagine fairies at the bottom of it as well.

I'm an atheist and I find life a struggle but the fact that I'm seeking to overcome my own problems without relying on a supernatural deity gives me a clear sense of purpose- God would want self reliance rather than blind faith.

well, for christians (and most other monotheist beliefs) this whole life is nothing but a practice session for the afterlife. Most reincarnation-beliefs would come back here sooner or later.
The atheist only gets one shot, so I had better make it count!

You do not have your eyes set on the prize. We both have an opinion of what happens after we die. Neither can PROVE it. One is correct and the other is incorrect. So, who will appreciate the afterlife more?
