In your experience, e.g. cross trainers, treadmill, rowers, exercise bike etc. for general day-to-day fitness

I prefer the crosstrainer since this machine gives you a complete work out, it doesn't only burn calories, it also trains the muscles. Workout machines on which you need to stand up are much more effective than workout machines you must sit on, they burn calories much faster.

swimming pool.
But if you can't find one of those, I guess its the eliptical or the rower (they have less impact on your joints). But I think its mostly just a choice, because I can't stand either of those machines so I take the treadmill. Just monitor your heartrate and learn where it should be for the workout you want.

Although I haven't tried any of those yet, I still recommend exercising at leat 3 days a week, 30 minutes a day. The best times to exercise are in the morning (when you just wake up), when you're free (go for a brisk walk) and at night before you go to bed. By the way, thanks for your answer to my Science question.

I would say my bed. I've had better workouts there than anywhere.
