I have been charged with theft under 5000, and Obstruction of Justice. I have hired a lawyer and feel I might be able to get off my theft charge but not 2 sure about my Obstruction charges. How serious is this charge? I would like to become a police officer and want to go to college for it, is it pointless to do so now? ANSWERS PLZ :(

The obstruction charge is generally not such a big deal, especially on a first offense. Likely you will only get probation. However, as for becoming a police officer, it is very unlikely that any law enforcement department would hire you with that conviction on your record. Anything is possible, but obstruction charges tend to indicate to law enforcement that you either are prone to dishonesty or don't have respect for the job of police officers. These are particularly bad from their perspective, and are the misdemeanors most likely to stand in your way of getting hired.

If you can't get acquitted or get the convictions expunged, I'd start thinking about a different career.

If law enforcement was your goal then what is up with your actions? Grow the h&ll up and be a man. If you want to do the crime then do the time. You can still go into law enforcement as lots of police persons are criminals.

If this is your 1st offence you may just get probation if your lucky. Smarten up. Where is your life headed? Do you really want to go there? Think of what you did to find yourself here asking this question. Even if you get off scott free this time will you be so lucky to get away with it next time? Take this as a wake up call.
