I had always done the same thing, and I finally found a dentist that just figured out the spots that weren't touching all the way, and he straightened them out. Stress definately made me grind them worse, but was not the sole reason. Mis aligned teeth or jaw problems including TMJ are often the underlying cause. I have 5 children, 2 of them inherited my problem and now have it solved as well. I would discuss it with your dentist and doctor. Grinding will eventually do serious damage. There is a guard you can buy to wear also, not sure at such a young age since you wouldn't want him to choke on it, but check into it.

i think there is something you can buy to put between their teeth...i do not know the reason a person grinds their teeth but i do notice i do it sometimes myself when i am awake..mine i think is a lot to do with being nervous...you might consider talking to a physician about this and maybe he can tell you medical reasons for this..

I would think it would have to do with dreams and they could be thinking they are chewing something when they really arnt. If you go to wal-mart they have these mouth gaurds and just place it in the mouth before bed.
