Yes, I grew up in Malaysia where the fruit is aplenty and everybody seems to love it. I notice however that the 'skin' of the seed tends to stick to the fruit, which I don't like. My mother loves rambutans though, and I understand some people peel them and add them to fruit salads.

I ate a lot of it as a child, when we had the tree in our backyard. Recently had some but couldn't eat too much of it though as it is 'heaty'. It heats the body up. And I already have a problem with the amount of heat in my blood being higher than normal. Otherwise, I enjoy the fruit when it's been chilled in the fridge after my mum's peeled it : )
The rambutan fruit is also called 'hairy lychee'.

They are OK. They taste a bit like lychees but without the fragrant delicate flavour that lychees have. The appearance is more impressive than the taste.

Yes, aside from d taste it looks like lychee but it's really red and it has a big seed, like a berry. It can also be found in other tropical countries. Sometimes, it is not sweet but a bit sour.

I live in Papua New Guinea, and we get them in the markets here.
I think they taste SOOOO good. and so does everyone else here.
They are like THE fruit. and they look cool, too. I think they're fun to break open.

Very much so. In the Philippines its very popular.
Its made into juice, candy and added to desserts. Miss it really. The ones available here in the US are just frozen ones.
