I think the soul is not held in the body like a prisoner but has Free Will to move about. It elects to come and go the same as you getting in and out of your automobile. I believe the soul travels during sleep placing the body in an autopilot state till it returns.

It appears the soul/spirit can be in 3 positions regarding the body. 1. entirely in the body itself 2. within the head & 3. entirely away from the body. #1 & 2 i used the word entirely to express the condition of the spirit itself ie; #1 when the spirit has dropped into apathy and things become solids it can become stuck & #3 when the spirit considers it too painful to enter the body. #2. would be the ideal position as it can then leave the body at will. I didnt answer your question, sorry, this i don't know.

The sould has been compared to a "Subtle Knot," something that can't immediately be separated from the rope it is tied with.
The sould could also be compared to the flavor of an apple, or the color of paint.
The problem with these comparisons is that they don't adapt well with the "soul leaving the body" belief. But comparisons are never perfect, right?

According to the Bible, the soul is the person himself or the life that the person leads so there would be no need of attachments.

Interesting question, oh Sun of Man!
Identity is what binds the soul to the flesh.
The soul leaves and returns regularly, it considers the body its earthly home. (there's no place like home?)
Most individuals are not conscious of this, but they're learning...
At the time of death, separation is permanent...

I'm not sure I know what a soul is. Could you define it the one I AM?................"There once was a crow that said, a single crow can destroy heaven, that may be so but heaven means the impossibility of crows"...............Good question.
