Its a small Caribbean island known for it natural beauty and it is the only island in the West Indies with an Indian Reservation. Former French colony that eventually became British. Became independent in the late 1970s. Rosseau is the capital. Since the island doesn't have any natural harbors. many cruise ships don't dock here. The easiest way to get there by flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico on American Eagle (a subsidary of American Airlines).

Yes, it's a beautiful island. But, any where in the West Indies is beautiful.
You will have a lovely holiday there. The people are friendly and the food is good. The beaches are superb and plenty to entertain you at nights.
Have a great time.

Actually there are a lot of cruise ships stopping there and support a huge part of the economy. A lot of the atractions are geared towards the cruisers.
The island is truly beautiful. It is very rugged as in, little development once you leave the city.
Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed there and there are related tours you can take.
For "birders" it is heaven, also for scuba divers. Hiking is very popular also, as is river tubing one of the very many rivers. They say there is a river for each day in the year and they are still finding more.
We love Dominica and would definately recommend it.
PS the museum is very interesting too!
