As a wise person once said; the bible is a lion, it doesn't need anyone to defend it. It has stood up to all kinds of scrutiny for 2000 years and still stands firm. We have every reason to believe that it will continue to do so.

Try asking the same about the Torah! its a book that is 5000+ years old, and people still use it out in the middle east and laid down their rules by it!
Look at it like this my friend without the bible the majority of our constitution would not exist.
Schools - evolved from Sunday schools where religion taught children to read & write
Hospitals - evolved from Monistories where monks looked after people when they were on a pilgramage.
The Law - is based on the 10 commandments
Job Centres - were set up by the Salvation Army to Find people job's who lived in their Hostels, during the great depression the Goverment took over running the job centres.
As for if the bible being fables. Well parts of it I would agree with as being fiction. But there is far moor these days that are being proven as true.
Take for instance the Great flood, parts of that story have been proven true. If you go back 5000 years the sea leavel was far lower so what we know now as the Medertrainian sea was a big valley, as the sea level rose it formed a small waterfall between what is now Morocco & Spain which wore away the land bridge & then flooded the Medertrainian. Now before you say this is not true. There is the Arcealogy evidence that is in the British Museaum.
Moses and his story is found in hyographs which are also inthe British Museaum along with artifacts found in the Red Sea like chariots that have been washed up & are in the Cairo Museaum,
Then there is King Davis. When he invated Jerusalam the king of that city sent a letter to the king of eygpt asking for assistance, which nether came. Now copies of this letter is found in Israel, Cairo & the British Museaum. By the way you are alowed to view all of these artifacts by special appointment, by contacting the appropiate museaums.
I could carry on and tell you about the Greek, Roman & Jewish evidance About Jesus, but I think that I have put down enough information for now.

It's not just that the original manuscripts are so old (they were actually written after Jesus died, at least the NT was), but they were translated from Greek and Hebrew into Latin and then into English. The King James Bible was first published in 1611 and the current version has 14 books less than the original 1611 version. No one even knows who wrote Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deutoronomy and most of the Old testament. 30 years after Jesus death, it is claimed that Paul began a movement against the current group of people that where followers of christ. Even back then, 30 years after his death there was already break-aways. It is also claimed that he wrote some of the books in the NT so I would therefore question his motive.
Much of the Bible also is simply customs relevant to its time. go and read an etiquette book from the mid 20th century and see how relevant it is to current times, let alone something that related to a period and people that existed 2000 years ago and in a different country and culture!

I'm not making a childish thumbs down, but there is historical evidence for many of the events in the Old and New testament- some by Jewish and Roman anti-christ writers.
Every religious book is current, it just depends on how you interpret it. After all, the Bible and Torah do not state what the first animals were actually LIKE, it just says there were two of each species that existed taken onto the Ark. And it does support the idea of dinosaurs- it states that great lizards roamed the earth at some point between its creation and the creation of man...

OK, but your going to have to consider that some of your statements may not be valid. Apparently you haven't heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Granted they are not first additions at least there's no proff of it. But they do exist and they are quite a bit older then 2000yrs. Also, you imply that an Oral tradition could not survive the morning coffee break at the office let alone five thousand years. I'll have to challenge that, as the same prayers Muslims and Jews have been reciting for thousands of years, passed down through oral tradition, are exactly the same today as it was written in the Dead Sea Scrolls thousands of years ago. The words of these texts have not changed at all. It's the interpretation that is continually revised. Usually to fit properly in the latest Christian concept of why there religion is the only true one. The bottom line is ...it's just a book. and nowhere in the bible does it command you become attached to a specific religion. Or attend a church or synagogue. Religions are vehicles to spirituality, and it doesn't matter weather you drive a Mercedes or a ford, as long as you get there in the end.. But if you have to hitch hike...don't just hop in the first car that passes you by. And never get into the one that claims there the only car that knows the way, that car has been lost for a long time.

The bible is a call of historic archives written to some different person and compiled through uninspired adult men. The archives are actual archives besides the undeniable fact that the bible is only a smattering of what grow to be done in a bygone erra. it is like crumbs lower than the table. in case you obtain carry of a letter that grow to be written from one renowned golfer to a unique renowned golfer and the content cloth grow to be about golf, there will be a lot that you would no longer comprehend, exceptionally in case you've been no longer a golfer. that is because they were no longer talking to you at your aspect of understanding. besides the undeniable fact that someone would than opt for that they understand all about golf in accordance to those letters and infomration that they gained from different non golfers. it is largely what you've with the letters in the hot testomony and the religions of immediately. it is not any ask your self that there are the type of marvelous number of interpretations of the bible. The religions of immediately are depending upon traditions that were handed down for hundreds of years and what's written in the bible. it is all they have. each and each and every time the Lord has had some thing to assert to his people, he has continually suggested as prophets. regularly throughout the time of historic previous, prophets were taken away using lack of sufficient faith to take heed to them. Then the persons relied upon the words of the useless prophets. An get mutually of those were the scribes and pharisees in Christs day, which he condemned. yet another fake idea is that the books of the bible communicate for the completed bible inclusive of the fact in Revelations that condemns including to this e book. The bible grow to be compiled some hundred years after the most suitable e book of the bible grow to be written.

Firstly you have asked a very childish question. There are books and writings that are much more ancient than the Bible and are taken much more seriously than the bible. And the knowledge that they contain is timeless.
To begin the Vedas the religious literature of the Hindu faith was composed around 1500 B.C. And from there came Vedic Mathematics which is still relevant today. Ayurveda the Indian System of Medicine is around the same age of 3000 years and is widely practised in India and now also in the West.
The Tao Te Ching the basis of Taoism was composed in China around the 4th century BC and I still read it its wisdom is beyond time. The Analects of Confucis written around 500 BC are still read by millions of people in China. The teachings of Buddha also written down around 300 BC are revered by millions of people around the world.
The teachings of Zoroaster the Persian Prophet also date back to 500 BC and are held very close to heart by the tiny Parsi community.
The theorm of Pythagoros is the same after 2600 years. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali also more than 2000 years old are the basis of Yoga the ancient Indian excercise for a healthy mind and body and used by all health freaks today!!
The list can go on but there is not enough space here. And there is proof for all of them. Because we live by that knowledge today!

first of all, you said you wanted proof, while previously, you said the bible was not reliable because it is so old. truthfully, it is an educated faith.
second, chinese whispers through dozens of generations would not put the bible in the timeframe you say. if it had been whispered dozens of generations, you would surpass nearly 400-500 years. why was the bible handed down by dozens of generations of chinese, when the first bible was printed in greek in the second century? four generations at the most. these accounts of jesus' life were written at the least, on scrolls, thirty years after the death of jesus.
yes, we can rely on their accounts. middle east culture 2000 years ago was dictated orally. many people in those days would have been illiterate as printed language was not efficient. scribes were left to do the work of reading and writing. since their culture relied upon accurate oral accounts, it is safe to assume that these ancient people had memorizational skills that we can't comprehend. why? because we don't need oral culture anymore. also, when you pass rumors, these are usually held in some regard to secrecy. the oral culture of 2000 years ago, would have been repeated, clear and concise, so everyone can get the correct picture.
of all the texts of antiquity, the new testament is actually one of the newest. socrates', plato's, and aristotle's philosophies are regularly taught in academic settings, they lived nearly 3000 years ago. we also regard the writings of alexander the great's historians as true history, which were written nearly 5000 years ago. you do the math.

you obviously have a closed mindset towards the bible, so whatever anybody said wouldn't make you change your mind. Just as a thought though, if the bible was the Word of God he would want it to be available to everybody in the earth. And this is what it is. The bible is the biggest selling book. Considering that having a bible or reading one was punishable by death during previous centuries shows something. Also unlike any other book, it claims to be the word of God. It has changed millions of peoples lives and made them better persons. If you want any other proof or have any other questions on this, please feel free to ask me

Your wrong, in that a story book is never out of date. Like the Koran, it is the written story - not historical fact, however, the Koran was written in 625-59AD (30 years after Mohammad's death) in a time when more science developed by the Greeks was understood in the middle-east.
Unlike other stories, they are an interpretation of history, with a suggestion to the cause of certain historical occurrences - but unlike a science book, that suggestion has no proof or research, so it is not dated from the discovery or testing of the proof.
If these books were filed in the science section it would be another matter - but they are not, so the date of their conception is irrelevant.
