Which dialects did the majority of the “pilgrims” speak in 17th century?

the pilgrims spoke english that is rather similar to today's english. there are however some slight grammatical differences. its still easy to read if you speak english. if you can find a copy of the play "the crucible" by arther miller, it will give you a pretty good idea of what it sounds like.

You need to look at where they originated from.

Originally from the East Midlands, there would have been a strong Nottingham dialect.

As many of them lived in Leiden for a good 10 years, there would also have been Dutch.

Finally, as they picked up passengers from Southampton on their way through, there would also have been a strong southern country dialect.
