I started smoking when I was 18. I am now up there in years and lead somewhat of a sedentary lifestyle. I think that has a lot to do with what can develop in a smoker. Like shortness of breath ,respiratory infections, emphysema, etc. I quit in 1978 and then started back in 1992. Now 1 pack a day.I wish I had never started again. I have heard trying to quit after the second time is almost impossible. I have chronic bronchitis and shortness of breath all the time. It's hard to do the things I used to easily do without a struggle now. Smoking turns your lungs black, your fingers and teeth yellow from the nicotine, your clothes and hair always smell bad. A lot of smart gals don't want anything to do with a guy that smokes. I am female and a lot of guys turn me down because I smoke. Many things can arise from smoking. By the way,if your not concerned about the health risk, you might be once you have some complications from smoking. Unless you just wanna die. How would you like having to cart an oxygen tank around wherever you go? I hope you come to your senses and never start the bad habit.

My husband has been smoking since he was 13 years old. He smokes 2 packs a day. Can it lead to health problems well he is 47 years old and has chronic pulmonary disease caused from smoking. The doctors gave him only four years if he did not quit hes still smoking now he is on oxygen 24 hours a day he can't got out in the cold it takes his breath. He is not able to do any activity with out exertion. He is now having test on his lung because they found a massive mass there could be cancer. So please from someone who knows smoking is not worth the health hazards you can develop. It may take you a while to develop them but I promise you it will happen. So what is more important to you a smoke or life you answer it.It sounds like you may have some emotional problems but I promise you smoking is not the answer.

I have smoked off and on since I was 19 and am 48 now. I don't have any problems, so far. I am in good health, eat right, exercise some, and overall feel pretty darn good. I don't recommend starting though, it's a nearly impossible habit to break - way worse than any drug out there. Only thing I regret in my life is starting to smoke. On the other hand, I really love it! Therein lies the dichotomy. Good luck!

Great question...I'm 65 years old and in good health. I quit smoking three years ago. I still miss it, I really like the taste of tobacco. For me its a quiet time, a calmness, a private thing ( by myself) I sort of just drift...peaceful. I do it in moderation... I did't suffer any problems while smoking at anytime, then or now. I don't know any one with a smoking habit problem, then or now. At the same time I know there is a health risk.......Me I'm going to continue smoking KOOLS...I just love it.

I've been smoking sense I was 17. I'm 27 now. No known health problems. I've had many physicals and I was told that I am in good health. .. Although they tell me I shouldn't smoke. I roller blade. Ride bikes. run up and down stairs. and I don't get winded. This past summer.. I roller bladed 5 miles and was not winded...just very thirsty.

Don't start. You may regret it later...when it will be too late. You have one body and one health. Why don't you want to care for the most precious asset in your life?
If you start smoking, it will be very hard to quit later on.
