is it safe to host US bases in your countries? isn't that you'll likely be a targe in case a war broke out?

This is something that surprises me about terror tactics regarding the Middle East. Why are US bases in Germany, Britain etc not being attacked. I mean if these Muslims wanted to attack the US they could be doing it in any number of countries not just in the Middle East.
Look at the IRA campaign against Britain. They attacked british army bases in Britain & Germany with relative degrees of success and attempted to attack them on Gibraltar.

Most nations host US military bases because the benefits outweigh the risks (generally, nations hosting US military forces tend not to be attacked by their less well-mannered neighbors).
