The expiration date is usually the date that the item must be sold by and the item should be good several days after that. Eggs last a long time. It is true that bad eggs float, so put the egg in a glass of water to see. And just make sure that you cook it properly before eating it, as you should always do. (You can buy pastuerized eggs if you plan on eating them raw ie, making cookie dough and licking the spoon).

chicken eggs? if they smell...throw them out. the date on the carton is the sell by date, not the exp date. i'd say as long as there is no smell, and they've been refrigerated, then maybe 7-10 days. if you have your suspicions, don't eat them. $1.09 spent is better than a hospital bill for food poisoning.

Just put it in a glass of water, if it floats it's no good.
Eggs are usually good for a while past the exp. date, so is yogurt.

So long as you cook them well, you won't get sick... but they will taste awful. Personally I wouldn't eat them, but if you are desperate, see how they smell and cook them well.
