Here's some info on crime rates in Sydney
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Sydney
England has the worse crime rate in the world
New Zealand has a very low crime rate compaired to rest of the world. I lived in Sydney for 6months and I didn't feel very safe, compaired to how i felt in NZ

auckland and sydney would be about the same security wise .Like all big cities police are under funded and you need to make sure you stay in secured and well lit areas and keep your guard up at all times.unfortunately london has been hit by terrorists which has marred londons reputation dramatically. Thats not to say it wont happen in sydney or auckland its just that weve been lucky so far

Auckland, since it is a smaller city than London and Sydney.
Actually, i went to London and Sydney, and it is also safe too. i think safety is not only about the criminal rate, but also how you behave. for women, not wearing jealwery, and clothes which show much skin. for men, not too much cash at hand, electronic camera and things show off, and look like a easy victim.
london has more things t do than sydney, because i love the culture things. but sydney does have nice weather than london so much.

Auckland is more safe overall.
Certain parts of Sydney is becoming seedy and one should not walk there alone at night, especially women.
London has always had its bad and dangerous areas. . .remember the Edgeware Road Boys and the Knotting Hill Gate Gangs. However as a whole London is more safe than NY or LA or Chicago

If you were actually concerned with safety you would live in any if the capital cities. Naturally they all have drifters, organised crime and all sorts of undesirables.
I think you should try Budleigh Salterton in Devon. Not just because its sounds like a nice place, but it actually is. (Its not very exciting though).
