You should get her signed up to begin preschool asap. She might beable to get in if a spot is open this year.......... and then go all next year. Then begin K in 2008-2009 school year. ( My daughter was born in november)

Preschool helps with learning its ok to leave mommy, gets them the basics for being a good listner, and learning to play with others.

My daughter went for 2 years, I work with her at home also. She is in K and reas at a 2nd grade level. I am a firm believer preschool and parents working with them at home make the world of difference.

Every school district is different. In our district the cut off date is December 15, so your daughter would be eligible to attend this fall. That said, it is often very flexible. Some districts will allow children to start school, even if they are younger than the cut off, provided the perform exceptionally well on the evaluations. Alternatelly, you could keep her home for another year if you think she may not be ready.

To find your district's cut off date you could call the district. You could also go to "Kindergarten round-up" at your local school. The teachers often will be there an often do an evaluation to help determine next year's class make up. The evaluations tend to be, recognizing ABCs (out of order), counting, writing name, coloring, rocognizing colors and basic shapes.

She should start school only when she can potty by herself (pull up and down her pants on her own), button and zipper her pants, put her shoes on (velcro), and can sit still land focus long enough for you to read to her for 10-15 minutes. She should also be able to follow two step instructions, like find your shoes and put them on.

Another poster recommendes preschool. That is a personal choice. If you believe you interact with your daughter and provide a good learning environment in your home there is no need. Conversly, if you believe she needs preschool, go ahead and send her. Many districts offer kindergarten readiness programs that are free, but not necessarily income dependant. Neither of my children attended preschool or daycare, both are doing amazingly well socially and acidemically, regularlly testing at the top of their grades in all subjects.

It depends on your school system. However the cutoff is usually in September. By a certain date in September the child must be five years old to start Kindergarten. My son turned four in October and will begin Kindergarten in 2008. You need to check with your local school system and probably start looking into a preschool for the fall. Hope that helps.

A lot of preschools start at age 3 or 4. The norm for kindergarten is 5. I would check with your local schools to find out ages and cutoff dates.

I would say start her in Kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year. She would be 5 and that is the norm.

At least here in Texas a child can go to Pre-Kinder if they are 4 before Sept.1st.

So if she turned 4 in Nov of 2006 than she can start Pre-K in August 2007 when kids go back to school.

In the U.S. (in most places) the cutoff date is Sept. 15th. So she will start kindergarten the year that she is five by Sept. 15th.
If she turned 4 in Nov. 2006 she will start school in 2008.

Next year or if you want to hold her back (ie not ready for school), you could do it the year after.
