SP2 has better security and if if hasn't happened already, soon updates will only be available for computers with SP2. When I upgraded to SP2 I had several problems with it. Within a few days it would totally crash my computer and I'd have to wipe it out and reinstall Windows. It was such a mess. Once I got it installed and put SP2 back on it would do the same thing in just a few days. After weeks of talking to Dell and Windows and whoever I could think of I finally traced the problem to my Roxio software. I was using an older version and it turned out that Roxio thought Windows should have to come up with a patch to make it compatible and Windows felt that Roxio should have to....so neither did. Once I upgraded my Roxio software I was able to install SP2 without any trouble. This is just a suggestion. I don't know what your problem is or what software you're running, but try tracking the problem to something like that. Good luck!

Yes SP2 is better than SP1 for added features and security. It would help if you describe the problem.

*IRT Additional Details

You shouldn't need to re-install in order to get SP2, just visit the windows update website:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If you are having trouble connecting or downloading the service pack, one or more of your system services may be disabled or you do not have administrative privileges.

Also, SP3 has been released.

circulate to Microsoft and acquire service %. 2. in case you have issues then re-set up domicile windows. attempt to re-set up XP that has service %. 2 in it already. And for definitely everyone else that announces you go with a solid replica of domicile windows to acquire service %. 2 nicely, that's no longer completely genuine.

if you could be more specific...
my SP2 has problem with its security settings; something to do with ActiveX or something.
You can try to poke around the ControlPanel>AdministrativeTools>LocalSecuritySetting...
try checking out what your problem is.
