This requires several steps. People must be convinced that terrorism is ethically the wrong, and not the right, thing to do. Religions and other organizations who breed these thoughts must be held accountable for their activities. The young must be warned that these organizations will only bring hardship onto their communities and are to be avoided. Also, alternatives and incentives must be given to people who would consider such acts. As I understand the families of terrorists are sometimes paid for their kamikaze acts. There must be a greater incentive financially, like a better economy, for them not to consider this option. A much higher value must be placed on human life. Respect must be given for others lives. Perhaps the answer to do this can be found in the same scriptures that some would misinterpret as a justification to do violent deeds. Also, let there be no political / physical barriers - let there be free movement of people from one place to another between states of a country and between countries of the world. Route out corruption - route in honesty and transparency. Provide compulsory, quality moral education to children. If you simply tell them that their actions/beliefs will cause them discomfort, cause anger from others or is wrong according to your beliefs, they will probably continue to follow their inner guidance, undetered by you.
The only consistantly effective way to change their inner guidance is through education.

I think the first step is to understand terrorism. Who and why. From there, perhaps steps can be taken to greater insure protection from terrorism, but I don't truly believe that it can be abolished from the planet. Not at this stage in our history.

We have all gotten way out of control...each in our own way. In the west, its more, more, more. We don't truly care about our fellow man, or put his needs first. Its all about me, and how much I can get. There are justifications for it all around, but in the end, we cannot deny that we have taken the 'me' generation to a whole new level. In the middle east, its all about hatred and intollerance for those who believe differently.

Terrorism is a result of the inability to coexist. And today, we are surely in that place. Look at the US today....there is no peaceful or respectful coexistence for Republicans and Democrats within the same country! How in the world can you expect us to peacefully co-exist with those that fundamentally view THE WORLD differently, when we can't even get our political parties to get along???
