I have a five year old cat, and I need to find her another home because my wife is pregnant. She is not the nicest cat in the world, and can be downright fierce sometimes. Is there someone or any organisation that takes cats other than the SPCA? I don't want to see her put down. I hope you can help...

Hi there...consider using Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com or Craigslist http://www.craigslist.org . On Craigslist locate your state and then local city on the list. Next look for the section called Community and subsection "Pets" to post your ad. Please consider asking a small fee for your kitty ($15-30) to disuade individuals who are looking for a free cat who to sell to research labs, bait for dog training or worse to be tortured for fun. Ask potential adopters that you would like to conduct a home inspection once every month for a few months to be sure your cat is being well cared for and not given away again as well.

I would suggest like most others have, craigslist, petfinder, the local paper, but also, try www.freecycle.org i believe is the name of the site. they allow pets so long as they are free. and im sure if you explained to someone the situation they would gladly give the cat a new home. i would also suggest, if you eventually plan to keep the cat, to get her declawed, and make her a outdoor kitty if its because your wife is pregnant. but normally the two dont go well together, but it would stop her from doing that with neighbors ect if she is that fierce you would think she would attack someone. if you have any friends with farmland, or anything like that, see if they need a good mouser, sometimes the fiercer types, are really good hunters, and most people with barns ect, will gladly take mousers! just a few extra ideas. hope it helps.

Why do you "need" to find another home for your cat because your wife is pregnant? Such a "need" makes no sense.

My oldest sister had a touchy cat who wouldn't let anybody pat her, until my nephew was born. Now the cat gets in my lap and lets me pat it, and she has basically adopted by nephew as a companion and they're the best of friends.

hm-mm - i am curious as to why you need to get rid of your beloved pet when you are about to have a baby?

we were in the same situation 3 established cats of a similar age (6,6,4) and we were given dire warnings by our impending midwife

but the reality was rather different - our affectionate cats were rather wary of the little baby and gave him a wide berth for YEARS.

no unfriendly incidents just a respectful distance

then when the baby was about 5 or 6 years old one of the cats allowed him to bond with them

i am wondering if you can give it a go?

unless you feel the cats temperament absolutely wont change - but miracles can happen

Is there anyone you know who can babysit the cat until the baby is old enough? I had 2 cats when my babies were born and then one night I found one of them sleeping in the crib!!! I still love the kitty but I love my babies more so my friend is watching her until the babies are old enough. You could also put an ad on craigslist or newspaper.

You can put an ad in the "to give away" in the paper or let local vets know that you need to find her a home due to a baby coming. My cats were great with my babies. I had to make sure they couldn't sleep on the babies. They do try to sleep on their chests. They sleep on my chest, too, but as an adult I can wake up and get them off me! One cat used to love to sleep around our first child's head when she was very little. It did keep her head warm!

If your cat is aggressive it will probably be put down, I suggest getting on a community site on line in your are, most towns have them, and explain the situation, and see if you can find kitty a home that way.

Try putting ads in the newspaper, in the local vet and shops.... if you dont get anyone wanting her then theres not really anywhere you can give her to unless you want her to be put down.

You can make a different cat house just near your house or you can make it a perfect house in the basement or in anyplace where no one permanantly goes.
