the ten commandments are spiritual laws and are just as valid for christians as anyone else.... in the old testament there were specific punishments for those that broke them... in the new covenant with Jesus those specific punishments no longer apply... however, being "laws" they still apply... if you try and break a physical law..for example gravity, and jump out of a plane without a parachute..you will pay a penalty...if you break the spritual laws..chances are you will also pay a penalty ..if you steal or murder you may go to jail.... as a christian it doesnt mean if you obey the commandments you will not have any problems... and they all only break down to two commandments...love God, love each other.... but we still have a problem with that, dont we?

This writer is generally correct, except for the fact that the new covenant church was given the authority by Christ to make laws for the church as well.

The church found it expedient to readopt and readapt the original 10 commandments in a new form that was appropriate to the age of grace.

It is those commandments which have the force of law, for today's Christians.

Here they are:

The Ten Commandments

1. I am the Lord, your God. You shall have no other gods besides Me.

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.

3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

4. Honor your father and your mother.

5. You shall not kill.

6. You shall not commit adultery.

7. You shall not steal.

8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.

10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

The Great Commandments

Jesus was asked by a lawyer which of the Ten Commandments were the greatest. His response: "Matt.22:36-40: Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. "

If you are following Christ's Law, that which replaced Moses' Law, you are still obeying the 10 Commandments. You're just going above and beyond them in your obediance.

They are still a good moral guider for those that aren't sure about certain decisions.
