He has slept in a queen size bed since birth with his daddy and I. He's turning 2 in a week and I am wondering which bed I should go for.

Financially, it makes more sense to go with a twin bed but when my son was 2, I bought him a toddler race car bed. He used it until he was 5 and then it went to his cousin when he turned two. My son is 14 and that bed is still in perfect condition and being used by a friend of the family.
He went into his own bed so easily because it was a fun, cool bed and we were able to get great bedding for him because it uses crib bedding which is available in fun colours and designs.

The only problem with his race car bed was that he didn't really want to give it up at 5 when he was starting to get too big for it. I wish I would've gotten the bigger one :)

Don't waste your money on a toddler bed. Go for the twin. Try a platform bed, low to the ground. Ikea, Target, West Elm and Walmart all have great selections. If your crafty make your own. I would not buy the captains bed for a toddler or a South Shore brand, because it's too high. Consider one without the boxsprings. A little off the twin bed, but a black futon from Target @ 150 is just the right height for a 2 year old and the futon fits a full sheet set and will grow into it.

Twin, he'll outgrow the toddler bed really soon and they cost the same. They do make railings to put on a twin bed if that worries you, they are removable as well. My 2 year old sleeps on the twin just fine, when we were at a relatives for the holidays she slept on the toddler bed (we never had one) and it was tiny, she didn't like it. Also the full coverage bed protector, one that "breaths" is essential for a toddler, it will protect your investment in the mattress, they cost like 50 dollars but are really worth it.

I think the best thing to do would be to get a twin size bed....that way he can use it as he is growing up and you dont have to worry about buying a new bed when he grows out of the toddler bed. Best of luck!!

Unless you have a crib that converts to a toddler bed, go for the twin bed. If you have to buy a bed, why not buy just one? The decrease in size probably won't bother him too much as I don't imagine he gets a lot of room between you and your husband, but don't forget the safety rail, just in case. He won't have your bodies for bumpers.

The biggest difference in the two is that a toddler bed is lower to the ground so that kids don't hurt themselves if they fall out, and many have partial guard rails to prevent falling out. If he doesn't roll around much, a twin will be fine. If he rolls a lot, I would suggest a toddler.

A regular bed with a bed rail. Toddler beds are a waste of money.

my daughter has just turned 3 at the moment she is in between sleeping in my bed and in her old cot that i have made into a small bed because we still live at home with my mum and 3 brothers so we dont have much room although she does have a single bed and we are house hunting so she can use her single bed and her own room so that she no longer has to share a room with me
