"Trombones spit glare, horns throw back pictures of me puckering, melting, shrinking into the bushes at the steep end of the compound."
Especially, I don't know what does "Trombones spit glare" mean.
Does that mean that the spit of the person who plays trombone glare?
(This is part of the novel"Vernon God Little"by DBC Pierre)

this is a very poetic loose way of speaking...it is not normal conversation. I think the author is just trying to create visual images...someone on a glaring trombone..spit flying....what it means is that trombones are shiny and do glare in the light..and yes it refers to someones spit going into or out of the trombone.

i would say that the sound( the spit) made by trombones is like a glare. Metaphorically not literally. The sounds, similar to the light rays, are wave like.

Not sure; "spit glare" could be in reference to the idea of throwing back pictures, i.e. bright reflections.
