I'm in high school and get up at 6 a.m. I have basketball practice after school so I probably won't be home until 5 or 5:30 and I have a test today. What can I do to prevent exhaustion?

You're in for a rough day, but to get through it, try not to have any down-time like quite study hall or reading time. Stay active and on your feet as much as possible.

Drinking water helps everything. Eating anything real heavy will made you sleepy, so stay far away from pancakes or complex sugars ... so get apples and chew on those day. Crispier the better, as they make your teeth fight a bit.

If you don't like coffee, you can throw back some Red Bull.

Finally, 1, eat light, 2 stay active, 3, drink RedBull

Water sounds like a good option. I'd stay away from sugar and white carbs, and go easy on the food in general (eat protein and veggies, mostly). If there's a safe place for you to do a relaxation exercise, do it at lunch. Close your eyes and relax your body from your toes to your head, while thinking "energy and alertness." This should take 10 to 15 minutes -- be sure to have a buddy wake you up in case you fall asleep! Take it easy at practice (but moving should keep you up) and try to get to bed an hour or two earlier. No caffeine after 2 p.m.

Today should be fine. Tomorrow might be a real bugger, though. Do as much as you can tonight so you can "sleep in" a little in the morning. Follow the same hints, and get as much sun as you can. And try to get to bed earlier tomorrow night too.

lotsa java, and water, and make sure you eat something. caffeine drinks are good 2, like redbulls. Always keep your mind occupied with something, as soon as your alone with your thoughts you fall asleep. read the paper, do the crossword, chew gum. etc.
